What television shows do you watch that, if the word got out you watched them, would lead to jump off a tall building?

Terrific TOM, Wednesday, 8 January 2003 23:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Shipmates. Blind Date. Judge Judy. Love these shows but no one has to know, right?

Big Turd, Thursday, 9 January 2003 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Coronation Street for certain aspects, altho none of the extreme measures Terrific TOM mentions. I enjoy Richard Hillman, Ken Barlow's powerhouse table-pushing - basically, the intense old people. All the teenagers/kids are dull as fuck roles. It can really be a shit show, but it can - i may now throw myself off something - charm the pants off me.

The host is an ass, and a lot of the videos are just cloying or trite, but you do occasionally see some truly bizarre things on "America's Funniest Home Videos" that make you glad you tuned in. It's not something I'd admit to watching though.

That thing Elvis Mitchell hosts

I am up late. At 5 AM in my town they have re-runs of A DIFFERENT WORLD followed by the COSBY SHOW. I can't get enough of it!

Richard Hillman=classic, the amount of "sinister double meanings" he's come out with! "I think what she needs this Christmas is (camera closes in on his face) A GOOD LONG REST." Ken is also classic yes, and though it's a bit cliched to laugh at it at this stage, Deirdre's neck is fucking bizarre.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

There's nowt wrong with Corrie. naked as sin is right about the old folks being the best (except David, best soap kid ever).

I think Archie's gone off the boil a little (I used to love it when he'd shake people's hand and announce their size - great touch that), so my favourite current character is Deidre's mum.

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm also quite a fan of local slickster Dev, haha.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the way none of these threads has anything to do with the Emperor's New Clothes at all.

The reincarnation of Tracy Barlow deserves a smack in the gob, since she always was a mouthy prima donna I'll let it go.

Ready Steady Cook
Property Ladder

Macattack (Macattack), Thursday, 9 January 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it the third Tracy or fourth btw?

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 9 January 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes no 4

First one had her main story line as a baby when a van crashed into t'Rovers as my failing memory recalls.

Best recent line:

"You know the problem with Tracy? Her dad's Ray Langton!" Blanche to Ken and Deidrie. (Like anyone gives a fcuk).

Macattack (Macattack), Thursday, 9 January 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Christ I sound like the Corro' oracle.

Macattack (Macattack), Thursday, 9 January 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Now if that's the same van that killed Alf's first wife (I think) then that's the storyline that was running the first time I ever started properly watching Corrie. About 1979?

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 9 January 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

It was a couple of years after that Alf's wife was killed by a coach (shortly after they had got married) the van that crashed into the pub was probably a Mk 1 Tranny. Now I think about it, it could have been the Tilsleys first born in the pram, under the rubble of the pub, or even the Websters... but if this was millionaire, I'd gamble £32k on Tracey Langton, no more.

Macattack (Macattack), Thursday, 9 January 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

There has been so many fucking "sinister double meanings", each campier than the last. The Ken/Dev showdown was an anti-climax.

I once saw a monkey jump kick a baby of only a few months on this show. Probably accompanied by some ridiculous "BOING!" sound effect. It was the greatest thing ever.

original bgm, Thursday, 9 January 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha! That's great. The show is awesome because you don't need any attention span to enjoy it. If one clip doesn't do anything for you, just wait 5 seconds and there'll be another. I remember another clip of some family gathering and the elderly grandfather had fallen asleep in his chair, so the family tied string around his hands and feet and manipulated him like a puppet for the camera. Amazingly, he never woke up. Perhaps he was dead. In any case, it made for an oddly compelling spectacle.

The gap between America's Funniest Home Videos and Faces of Death begins to close....

Amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 9 January 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, Amateurist, what are you doing over here on ILM? Get back over to the Christianity thread on ILE, I should just about have you convinced by now... ;-)

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 9 January 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Ping! James Ball

From a reliable source, I quote:

"For about two episodes after the truck (with a cargo of timber) crashed into the Rovers, it was presumed that baby Tracey was under the rubble and timber. It turned out that a local girl had kidnaped Tracey after spotting the pram outside the pub seconds before the truck crashed."

I stand corrected.

Macattack (Macattack), Thursday, 9 January 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Neighbours is my sanctuary and I'm unashamed to admit it.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 9 January 2003 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Amateurist,

Have you ever seen Mexico's Funniest Video's (not exactly sure of the actual name???? Very brutal stuff! Not as bad as BUM FIGHTS or BACKYARD WRESTLING but pretty nasty stuff nonetheless.
