Blipment!

You heard it here first. The spectacular new term for the new wave of MC Garage with Roll Deep up front -- better than gabba garage of gutter garridge of whatever reynolds came up with.

Blipment! Use it, spread it, love it!

Explain its derivation.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 January 2003 06:24 (twenty-three years ago)

B + Lip + Ment

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Thursday, 9 January 2003 06:25 (twenty-three years ago)

From "Bashment" for dancehall raveup but with "blip" instead for the laptop skronk riddims. A play on "bouncement" which is what was getting pushed as the uk-hip-hop term.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 9 January 2003 06:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I heart Chupa. And it's sure a hell lot better than 'bouncement,' that would have made me hurt people. Though I have to note that 'blipment' initially made me think of a combination of electro and Steve Malkmus, and does the world want that?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 January 2003 06:38 (twenty-three years ago)

why not just Blippage?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

or even Blip-pop

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

yeh blaad but tha kidz still call it garage

_gi**y_, Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:08 (twenty-three years ago)

blip = too chlidish, trivial. blips are minor, easily skipped. 'laptop skronk riddims' shorn of vitality

zemko (bob), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:09 (twenty-three years ago)

We certainly need a word to describe music that's using the 2-step beat. I don't have a problem with it, but people I've spoken to abroad seem to associate 2-step with mainstream acts like So Solid.

No seriously everyone please go download the Dizzy & Wiley track 'Happens For A Reason'. Sick blipment.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 9 January 2003 23:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Where?

There's not a jot of blipment on soulseek.

I hope the pirate MCs don't adopt this phrase, they'd blippetybloppetyblow it out of all proportions.

nebbesh (nebbesh), Friday, 10 January 2003 01:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Soulseek, yeah. Just put it in your wishlist and wait for the blipmenty deliciousness.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 10 January 2003 03:06 (twenty-three years ago)

phil jones (interstar), Friday, 10 January 2003 05:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Blipment makes me think of those adverts in Max Headroom that make fat people explode.
