Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 January 2003 10:37 (twenty-three years ago)

How new do you have to be to be new? I still consider myself a bit of a newbie. (I've been here for about 3 or 4 months.)

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 10 January 2003 10:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Hello to everyone newer and older than me.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 10 January 2003 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 10 January 2003 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok well it's a tribute to Kiki and Herb covering Nirvana but fneh.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 10 January 2003 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Hijacking - Scissor Sisters? Really find them enjoyable? I liked their cover of "Comfortably Numb" when I saw them, but aside from that...

Sociological aside: lots of dudes with shirts like this at their show:

hstencil, Friday, 10 January 2003 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

HELLO HELLO HELLO HELLO HELLO
HELLO HELLO HELLO HELLO HELLO
LOVE AND KISSES CHALES

Hello there.

Orange, Friday, 10 January 2003 19:12 (twenty-three years ago)

this thredd is ridiculous. is everyone just gonna say hello and that's it?

dunno how new i am - in fact, i have no idea how long i've been here - how about people say hi and then reference something someone they think is new has said, just to show them their presence has been felt in some way.

oh my god that sounds tragic. no, forget it.

hello everyone! (Kate, this is all your fault. you've led me down the path to SATAN, and i'm prolly gonna get fired for not doing any work as a result. HAPPY? (I'll mix Way Too Special into Sunglasses At Night of you're not careful...)

Charlie (Charlie), Saturday, 11 January 2003 08:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Howdy everyone,

I'm new. I'm 21 years old from Los Angeles. My friend Vic convinced me to join this group. I like the Beatles and Rilo Kiley, and lately I have been getting into Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire a lot. Neko Case's new record is also very nice. The Blow Monkeys and Slowreader are on my wishlist but I am too broke from one too many trips to Amoeba Music, the bane of my financial stability. Oh, and I like songwriting and am in a band, perpetually trapped in the "preparation" phase due to the time-consuming lifestyle I lead as a film student. I don't know if I'm any good but my friends say they dig it, so I guess that's something. Nice to meet you.

-Devin

DC Power Outlet (DC Power Outlet), Saturday, 11 January 2003 09:40 (twenty-three years ago)

haha devin finally posted! if anthony is reading this, this is the friend i was talking about -- now finally someone i know in "real life" has posted! ned's voice notwithstanding!@

Vic (Vic), Saturday, 11 January 2003 09:48 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a wonderful voice, Vic. Oh yeah, you come to the housewarming OR ELSE. Thank you, drive through.

Devin, I hear you on the pain of going to Amoeba and losing all your money. This is why I limit myself whenever possible to only the very occasional visit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 January 2003 15:23 (twenty-three years ago)

hi naked as sin!!!!i hope it's not an alias.....it's tattoed on my best friends' neck...(!)......now that i've said that...i can go back to what i do best.....name dropping about celebrities i sometimes wish i'd never met and have absolutely no contact with whatsoever....and talking about the geraldine fibbers.does anyone remember donna and althea, uptown top ranking?how 'bout lindesfarne, lady eleanor?just wondering.steve chase resigned from a.o.l.today.tears on my pillow.sigh.the dresden dolls (w/amanda palmer)will someday drool the world

Hello. Who runs this joint? I like it.

Polo Pony, Tuesday, 14 January 2003 02:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Hello new posters. Honour the fire!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

"Fire, would you have this dance?"

"I'd be honoured!"

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait, "would you"? Obv I meant "may I". Shows how long it's been since I've asked someone to dance. (And/or that I haven't had coffee yet this morning.)

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Does anyone else on here have a catchphrase anywhere near as infectious as "(dis/)honor the fire"?

Oh, hi everyone. Not sure what the intent was behind this thread.

And this is where a poster says "Hello" to the forum.

Lord Custos Omega (Lord Custos Omega), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Does anyone else on here have a catchphrase anywhere near as infectious as "(dis/)honor the fire"?

I like Ned's characteristically understated "Yay!"

btw I'm relatively new 'round here and now consider myself to have been roundly welcomed...

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 04:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, welcome again, and why not? And thanks!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 04:24 (twenty-three years ago)

now thats pussy power

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 08:49 (twenty-three years ago)

three years pass...

I'm new and I wanna be welcomed. Please note my 1337 searching skills in reviving this 3 year old thread for said purpose.

I'm from Austin, TX and I like to meet other music nerds. Especially for outings. Last good show I saw was Do Make Say Think & Broken Social Scene at Stubbs, next good one will be Charalambides this weds at Emo's.

I have narrow, bad taste in music that makes me gravitate towards anything slow and pretty and above all boring. For example, I've been googling for threads on my favorite bands here on ilx, and so far I've seen Akron/Family, Savath & Savalas, Fursaxa, Sunn O))), Tortoise, and Windsor for the Derby all described as boring. So that seems to be the common adjective for stuff I like the most.

I like to travel here and there to music happenings when I can and was at Terrastock 6, Arthurfest and ArthurNights, and obviously SXSW. This is how I met Ned Raggett and discovered the existence of this neat little enclave.

I'm also a KZSU alumn and a techie.

Welcome to us. The rest of your free time is now shot forever.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 November 2006 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

Man, Madona used to be hot.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Sunday, 12 November 2006 21:26 (nineteen years ago)

hey, this reminds me: what ever happened to that other new person who I told to listen to Akron/Family, prompting the very same "boring" disses that this new person stumbled across?

bernard snowy (sixteen sergeants), Sunday, 12 November 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

strangedaze what did you think of the film Slacker?

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Sunday, 12 November 2006 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

I love Richard Linklater movies. It's been awhile since I've seen Slacker, but I remember it being just the kind of meandering, pretentious crap that I appreciate in both music and film.

lick_my_stereolabia (nariposa), Sunday, 12 November 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

I just know it's supposed to take place around Austin...

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Sunday, 12 November 2006 22:52 (nineteen years ago)

Austin represent!

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Sunday, 12 November 2006 23:36 (nineteen years ago)

Since this thread seems to be revived, might as well say hi, as I haven't posted before. FWIW, I just hit "shuffle" on itunes and here's what came up:

1. Scientist and Prince Jammy -- "Round One" (from "Big Showdown" album)
2. The Fall -- "Pay Your Rates"
3. Fela Kuti -- "Observation Is No Crime"
4. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds -- "All Tomorrow's Parties"
5. El-P, Ghostface, & Prefuse 73 -- "Hideyaface"
6. The Homosexuals -- "Victoria Falls"
7. Theoretical Girls -- "Europe Man"
8. TI -- "Rubberband Man"
9. Nation of Ulysses -- "Diptheria"
10. The Fall -- "Fit and Working Again"

I am a big enough Fall fan that they often show up more than once in any given shuffle of ten songs, apparently.

ersatz (ersatz), Sunday, 12 November 2006 23:39 (nineteen years ago)

"Austin represent!"

okay.

It's the lazy and immoral way to become super hip. (Austin, Still), Sunday, 12 November 2006 23:40 (nineteen years ago)

Oops, perhaps in the future I'll not include my real name / e-mail so as to avoid spam. Oh well, cheers everyone.

ersatz (ersatz), Sunday, 12 November 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

Although if "battle" is actually your last name you're totally my new best friend.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Sunday, 12 November 2006 23:42 (nineteen years ago)

Fixed it, but try to avoid it in future. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 November 2006 23:43 (nineteen years ago)

The actual full text of the only email I've ever gotten "from a member of ilXor.com":

tortoise is not boring!

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Monday, 13 November 2006 01:32 (nineteen years ago)

I agree, and I felt almost the same way as the above person when I first came to ILM!

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Monday, 13 November 2006 01:37 (nineteen years ago)

I am a big enough Fall fan that they often show up more than once in any given shuffle of ten songs, apparently.

You're right at home, then.

naus (Robert T), Monday, 13 November 2006 03:19 (nineteen years ago)

for some reason I've never done that 10-song shuffle thing before. I started to just now, and the first song was a Flaming Lips-Dead Prez mashup. nothing in the remaining 9 tracks could possibly salvage my reputation, so I just threw in the towel.

bernard snowy (sixteen sergeants), Monday, 13 November 2006 03:27 (nineteen years ago)

I'll just post the last 10 songs on my last.fm for fun:

A Guy Called Gerald - "Voodoo Ray"
Talk Talk - "Ascension Day"
FannyPack - "Sugar Daddy"
The Clash - "Should I Stay or Should I Go"
Massive Attack - "Teardrop"
Fergie - "Fergalicious"
The Beatles - "Helter Skelter" and "Rain"
Pavement - "We Dance"
and like all the songs from "Return to Cookie Mountain"
