'snow' already track of the year, while on XFM
e.t. morris has just said 'this decade's 'ghost town'
and i'll bet my left testicle on a top 10 hit...'
about an unknown track called 'things'.

altogether now...
"what the faaaaack..." !??!!

And there was me thinking the Sugababes were the ones that were gonna rob the Delgados of the Mercury next year...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 10 January 2003 22:30 (twenty-three years ago)

download 'Snow' at http://www.base58.com/audio_bullys__snow.mp3

looking forward to the album, yes they might end up with a Mercury prize nomination but no big deal - and they're unlikely to win...it will be NME's 15th best album of the year and ILM's 7th probably too

oh how i look forward to the deluge of 'sorry but what is the big deal about Audo Bullys' threads from baffled Americans and nonchalant Europeans more interested in Dizzy Rascal and Rolldeep ;)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 January 2003 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I think we should just turn the hoses on them.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 10 January 2003 22:35 (twenty-three years ago)

why? they're not called Audio Perverts....oh but what a lovely thought though

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 January 2003 22:39 (twenty-three years ago)

xfm luv just seals the deal far as i'm concerned

zemko (bob), Friday, 10 January 2003 22:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Nothing wrong with Audio Bullys - "Real Life" was one of my top 50 tunes last year.

Siegbran (eofor), Friday, 10 January 2003 23:44 (twenty-three years ago)

'Real Life' is probably their weakest track for me...i like the miserable vibe of it in a way but the plodding dissonance and failure to expand on the 'we live our lives, but we're worlds apart' is disappointing really

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 January 2003 23:52 (twenty-three years ago)

zemko has inadvertently made an interesting point actually - why should The Streets and Audio Bullys get airplay but More Fire Crew and Dizzy Rascal do not? you have to wonder about that...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 January 2003 23:55 (twenty-three years ago)

The Cassius remix they did was good.

Still warming to the other tracks though...

Mil, Saturday, 11 January 2003 01:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Cassius remix made a good vocal a fucking great vocal.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 11 January 2003 01:53 (twenty-three years ago)

inadvertantly?!

why? cos it's xfm aka "steve lamacq's taste in dance music isn't that bad really" and i never much cared for lumpen postpub big beat. also i wonder (especially given comparisons to audiobullys and what with temple-morris saying the EXACT SAME THING re ghost town about the streets last year) to what extent the streets was upheld on xfm just as a false community singalonga everyman geezer; i almost hear sighs of relief there, as if saying yeah they're like the streets only without that problematic stuff we can't conga to, wahey

zemko (bob), Saturday, 11 January 2003 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

which makes me think that the streets were the novelty exception that i'd throw in with dizzy and more fire. ok maybe not go that far, but certainly seperate from audiobullys. it's all about how the listeners relate, innit? xfm = richmond authenticity

zemko (bob), Saturday, 11 January 2003 13:32 (twenty-three years ago)

ha there anyway to day you don't like big beat without coming off as highminded?

zemko (bob), Saturday, 11 January 2003 13:33 (twenty-three years ago)

(say)

zemko (bob), Saturday, 11 January 2003 13:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Zemko, Dizzee Rascal and the Streets can only be novelty acts to an Xfm listener. Can i be the first to say that another reason i dislike audio bullys (and would take rolldeep, horsepower, more fire over em anyday) is that the production sounds really cheap and dated?
Also let us not forget audio bullys make HOUSE rolldeep et al GARAGE.

gi66y, Saturday, 11 January 2003 15:06 (twenty-three years ago)

that's kind of what i meant though reading myself back i don't make sense

making house is no excuse for being snoozy. i hope i don't come across as garagecentric

(gi66y yr an oldster with a new name right? if not hallo)

zemko (bob), Saturday, 11 January 2003 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

dizzy is perhaps a little too close to the unfamiliar bone to fully appeal to the trad xfmer?

zemko (bob), Saturday, 11 January 2003 15:55 (twenty-three years ago)

i am utterly bemused by this thread.

michael wells (michael w.), Saturday, 11 January 2003 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes lets not forget Audio Bullys make house not garage as both the above seem to have done, saying you'd take Roll Deep "over them" is thus a bit stupid. Some people do genuinely prefer house, whatever anyone thinks about the Bullys.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 11 January 2003 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean it's comparing two different things, just because you hate Audio Bullys doesn't make a lazy comparison with whatever you do believe to be the next big thing any less lazy. Cos the only thing in common is just that, hype.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 11 January 2003 19:47 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, but wtf is this thread about??

michael wells (michael w.), Saturday, 11 January 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

'Real Life' is probably their weakest track for me...i like the miserable vibe of it in a way but the plodding dissonance and failure to expand on the 'we live our lives, but we're worlds apart' is disappointing really

I didn't like how the MC'ing on "We Don't Care" is so dominant - "Real Life" is just about that groove, and everything else is just spicing it up a bit. Although the high pitched synth line is a tad annoying, it sounds much less cheesy than "We Don't Care" which goes much more for novelty value, or so it seems.

But then again, I'm not British, so I might be missing the things about Audio Bullys that makes them so great for the natives?

Siegbran (eofor), Saturday, 11 January 2003 22:03 (twenty-three years ago)

audio bullys will be largely forgotten about by the end of the year. i would put money on that.

michael wells (michael w.), Saturday, 11 January 2003 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Just like the Stanton Warriors, indeed.

Siegbran (eofor), Saturday, 11 January 2003 22:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Stanton Warriors have a massive reputation as total wankers at this point. My friend was support at their show here and they practically told him to fuck off when they were going on. Also they've been fucking about with labels to make as much cash as possible, and delaying the album so so long. I mean the iron was hot about 2 years ago! Having said that the Stanton Sessions is enough to believe they could do something magic. I want to see Audio Bullys DJ.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 12 January 2003 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't believe how much a fucking hate that band. I hope they die in some horrible car crash, while playing their own tape, so they lie dying to the sound of the tape in the broken machine going "what the faaack what the faaack what the faaack" forever.
