The rest of the disc = firey trainwreck of shallow ideas and weak execution.

Haters be damned - their new video is pretty goddamned cool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2fpgpanZAw

(Oh, by the way: It's an 18 hour shot choreographed and filmed at wildly varying frame rates... and it gets better as it goes on).
I gotta give credit for these guys figuring out the 'indifferent to the music but every video is great' balance:

the world's most viewed middle school dance routine

So these guys just make videos and then write songs for them?

Guilty pleasure: "White Knuckles"... kinda like an extremelyyyyyyyyyyy low-rent "I Would Die 4 U".

i hate this band.
"So these guys just make videos and then write songs for them?"
I just saw an ad for a live performance of theirs which said they will play 'the soundtrack to your favorite videos' and I was like WTF is that shit
― akm, Tuesday, 13 March 2018 02:15 (eight years ago)
Well, these guys do make way more interesting videos than songs, to the point where I would be shocked if the videos weren't the feature of their live performance too

earlier today a nightmare of mine came true and my 73 year old mother found and THOROUGHLY ENJOYED an OK GO music video (a marching band themed video for "This Too Shall Pass") according to her post sharing it on the Face Book on which I did not click. another old lady commented to say she too loved it and where did she find it? to which she said, and I quote:
"I shared this from another Facebook wall. Had never heard of the OK Go Rock Band before but I looked them up."

new single sounds like a re-write of Making Plans for Nigel

They've always sounded a little like XTC, but yeah I can hear some "Nigel", some "Burning with Optimism's Flames". I think I like watching the BTS videos of their shoots more than the actual videos
― Vinnie, Thursday, 17 April 2025 13:52 (one year ago)
To elaborate on that, I didn't get a sense of how impressive the "Love" video is until watching the BTS
― Vinnie, Thursday, 17 April 2025 13:53 (one year ago)
totally agreed, especially in an era where AI and incredibly sophisticated CGI takes the wonder out of everything it's cool to see "we actually did all this"
not to imply their videos ever seemed fake to me, just technology as a whole makes me feel cynical
I like the song of course, mostly because I really love XTC, guess if you gotta steal you might as well steal from the best
― frogbs, Thursday, 17 April 2025 13:57 (one year ago)
Some of their videos, like the Rube Goldberg one, it's pretty clear how they setup and filmed it. This one... I really just didn't think about how logistically difficult it would be until seeing how they made it
I still don't really care about their music very much, but love watching the videos with my son. "Upside Down and Inside Out" is the only one I've put on without the video, very catchy

The lead singer still looks pretty good imo … we had a class together 30 years ago and I thought he was intersting
