Listening parties

I have one ticket to go listen to Nick Nave's new record on Thursday. I have never been to this kind of thing before. As I said, I've got one ticket so I'd have to go on my own, and I doubt I'd know anyone inside, and I expect there will be cool people there. So will I look like a dork on my own? I think I'll go anyway, cos it'll be fun even if I'm embarrassed and I'd like to hear the record. What are these events like? Is it like a party where the record's on in the background, or more of a small theatre thing where you are made to sit down and really listen? Also, do you think Kylie will be there?

U&K question: who is Nick Nave? Has Nick Cave stopped being a hermit and moved into a church?

It's the nickname by which we who get to hang out with Kylie call him. I suppose it would be Mr. Cave to the likes of you.

I have a bootlegged prerelease copy! Since you're really going to listen and not socialize, I don't see why going by yourself would be weird; I go everywhere by myself. Wear black jeans, a black button-down, and a black blazer. Oh, and black shoes and socks.

Aren't these events put on for writers/critics? So if you sit alone and listen carefully, especially if you scribble in a notebook now and then, you will be taken for a critic. For what that's worth.

Is it any good, Sean? I saw it got 3 stars in Q, and the review made it sound a bit tame until the last song which lasts 15 minutes and has 40 verses. 40 verses!

Hmm, well I've only played it once so far, but I've loved his last few on first listen, and this one really didn't make much of an imprssion. I was probably distracted, though.

Are you allowed to dance around and get freaky at these things, and yell shit at the speakers? Because otherwise I can't see the point. They do serve booze, correct?

Tom Millar (Millar), Saturday, 11 January 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The events are mostly to lure journalists = they do serve booze.

Free booze too often!

That doesn't even begin to make sense, Anna!

five years pass...

at some point,(when?)those listening parties became a sign for hyped records anticipation.

I'm not dude's biggest fan (nor his smallest), but why not?

Chin-rubbing parties.
