hip hop tracks that double as cell phone ringers

Having heard 50 Cent's pretty awful "Wanksta" I can't help but think that he may have come up with the hook from listening to cell phone ringers. He's not the first; I believe Tah Murda a/k/a Cadillac Tah set a precedent by using an actual ringer tone as the foundation for his mega-cheap "Pov City Anthem". Sooooooo bad.

Just wondering if anybody else may have noticed this burgeoning trend, and if there are any ways to predict and combat its spread. Ring tones might be the most faulty representations of music ever, even worse than those compilations of music repurposed by some studio band.

"get ur freak on" is actually a dancehall cut from before the dawn of ringtones. its name and artist escape me right now.

My friend's plays Baby Got Back, just the intro with the bass and hi-hat.

Generally speaking though, musical ringtones=Dud.

also, using ringtones as melodies wasn't exactly a "burgeoning trend" in hip-hop in late 2002, early 2003. maybe 1999.

In Hawaii I saw some tarted-up junior high students waiting in line for Lilo and Stitch... one of their cell phones rang and it was the hook from "Bootylicious." I thought that was the best thing ever.

I've always dreamed of having a cell phone that would ring with the Watch Out Now / Jenny From The Block hook. that would be soooo cool.

Dude, I have that ringtone. It's available from jipii.co.uk and is listed under beatnuts...

Also great as a ringtone is "taste just like candy"

watching john darnielle and peter hughes sing along to peter's 'ignition remix' ringtone at last week's mountain goats show here was one of the finer moments of the show.
