Senor Coconut durch Kraftwerk

What do you guys think of this: I heard the Senor Coconut latin version of tour de france before I heard the kraftwerk one, so the kraftwerk one seems to me like a german techno cover of a latin song. I can tell you it feel s weird. It makes me want Kraftwerk to cover more latin songs. I wonder if something like this has ever happened to you , gentle reader? PLease share.

I think it's swank.

What the hell, I'll listen to this again too.

*does so*

Works better than I remember it, much more than simply novelty value. I won't pretend to be an expert in the musical styles that dear ol' Atom Heart is working with, but it certainly sounds wonderful.

Okay, hearing the cover before the original -- happened more than once, but not very often with the same strange shock Mike described. I think that speaks more to the essential conservatism of most cover versions than anything else. If I had to nominate something, "Song to the Siren," first heard of through This Mortal Coil. Comparatively, the Tim Buckley original sounds like an overwrought take on an atmospheric base piece.

Similar situation: a few people heard the karaoke parodies on my 'Stars Forever' album before they heard the original songs on 'Little Red Songbook'. I imagine several were disappointed to hear that splendid song that starts: 'I want to suck your cock, from its bottom to its top', sung by a sexy Italian girl, sung by me as a ditty about one Harry K Tel, method actor: 'I hate your famous guts, I know that girls are sitting ducks, I know you've got the bucks, but what gets me is you schmucks think you can hit on any girl in the world'. It probably made me sound like a rather poor parodist, intent on turning songs of pure sex action into songs of dull sexual moralising.

I personaly am more pleased with the parody of Old Friend, new Flame. No rhyming, no apparent interest in entertainin g the listener, no etiquette. Its wonderful. That parodist deserves a pat on the back. But I sang "I spelled b l o w space m e " for weeks.

I heard Mego's disco version of the Star Wars theme before I saw the movie, and to this day I think the real theme is a crap pseudo- classical John Tesh version of that.

one month passes...
i heard planet rock before i heard trans- europe express, which pretty much ruined that forever for me. but the senor coconut version, way better. the only problem with that record is that only one song off my favorite kraftwerk album is covered (that'd be computerworld, duh).
