It sounds like Nick Drake. VERY like Nick Drake. But it's still very good. Nice tunes abound. There wasn't that much fuss over it from Britcrits, was there?

Ha ha. I was very surprised by it. I wouldn't praise it too highly, though. Is it belittling it to call it a "nice" album? Probably.

There are some utterly lovely songs on there (6:30 is Way Too Early, I Know My Love, the title track). If you like country folky acoustic guitar music you really won't regret it.

rough trade shops says it is their album of the year, but they have pretty rotten taste actually last year it was white stripes i think and year before some other form of dreadful. i've never heard the album.

nice pastoral folky stuff, quite interesting and the remixes i've heard of his stuff are ace..

I bought this after reading Sean O'Hagan's glowing review in the Observer: haven't seen it mentioned much elsewhere, apart from Careless Talk.
He compared it to Nick Drake & John Martyn: of course it's nothing like either, but it is very very good. It creeps up on you - some of the songs are essential.
Belle & Sebastian fans would like it.

is the sean o hagan who writes for the observer (recently did an article about giving up drink) the guy from the high llamas?

I certainly didn't like it as much as I hoped I would. Maybe I shouldn't pay so much attention to Rough Trade's plugs/reviews.
