RFI : Spain?

Yesterday an Argentinian girl played me an album by a British band called "Spain". It was pretty bland, rather heavily US country influenced, I thought. But I was pretty surprised to hear about how there was a British band who were big (or at least known) in Argentina that I never heard of

are they not the American band led by Charlie Hayden's son Josh???

real slow?? guitar solos w/lots of chords in them??

Johnny Cash does a cover of "Spiritual" on Unchained???

It's plausible that they're really American. They sound VERY country to really be brits.

In general my source knew her music so I gave her the benefit of the doubt,

They have one terrific song, Untitled 1, on the Blue Moods of Spain. Overall I find their sound to be rather tedious. Josh Haden's sister is in that dog.

Their first one The Blue Moods Of Spain has several quality tunes, my favorite is "I Lied." If you're into that really slow and morose Low sound and wouldn't mind a tinge of jazz thrown in then they'll fill your belly quite well. Their second LP had one song (and a great cover), there wasn't much to speak of on the third.

hmm. i'm argentinian and, for all i know, spain is not really popular here, except among music indie snobs or whatever. you know, those people who think they are better than thou just because they listen to some "obscure" stuff! i know lots of record shop owners like that. they like spain.

as some others said above, i find their music a bit tedious and slow at times. which is not a bad thing.

I liked "Nobody Has to Know". Josh Haden's father was on Free Jazz.
