(Band X)'s songs would sound better sung by Destiny's Child

When listening to the Eels' "Souljacker" I realized that I'd rather Destiny's Child was wooping it up on songs like "World Of Shit" rather than this raspy voiced self-impressed psuedo-Beck folkie. Are there bands who you think would be benefited by Beyonce or your personal favorite emotin' soul diva was singing? Normally I'd even want to keep the original music track and just change the vocals, so this is no DJ Sammy's "Heaven" dealy her.

Others for me: Smashing Pumpkins, Jesus & Mary Chain, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion ("The Child is no. 1, baby!"), the Blasters.

You're a sick fuck, Tom.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

any band, ever.

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

No, that would be BRILLIANT. Imagine Beyonce singing "The Blood", or Kelly singing "The Empty World"!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Cryptopsy.

original bgm, Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

No, that would NOT be brilliant!

man, Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh. Well, Dan, I'll allow that if Robert can sing some Destiny's Child songs in turn and Tom and Anthony don't have a knee-jerk reaction against that. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Destiny's Child's songs would sound better sung by Destiny's Child.

hstencil, Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Destiny's Child's songs would sound better sung by Thom Yorke, actually.

Robert Smith singing "Bugaboo". Oh dear I seem to have overloaded my giddy circuits.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Robert Smith can sing "I don't think I'm ready for this jelly/your body's too bootylicious for me!"

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Wrong, Anthony -- he sings it as it stands. Or else we change the lyrics Destiny's Child have to sing. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

fff. I wouldn't want to make Robert try to sound sexually confident. I thought he'd dig the timidity.

Actually I adore Robert's "soul" voice on tracks like "Why Can't I Be You?" and "Hot! Hot! Hot!" enough that I wouldn't have picked them for this list. In fact, I'd even go with Ned and be more interested in hearing the Cure cover them (unironically of course. I like genuine covers).

I'd like to hear DC taking on The Final Countdown.

Type O Negative.

I've thought for a while that "Don't You Want Me?" would sound good performed by a Motown girl group with handclaps accenting the pre-chorus ". . .both be sorry" stuff. Maybe Destiny's Child would be a contemporary equivalent.

I never thought about it before but it actually didn't seem too bad when I tried to imagine DC singing "Pictures Of You".

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I totally think DC could rock "Catch" or any number of Cure songs. I just don't think the Cure did them that bad. As opposed to the Eels, who aside from "Last Stop: This Town" always bug me vocally.
