Do you know any music or sound collages consisting of little noises scurrying across a steady drone (mp3) or pulse (mp3)?

It's probably a musique concrete technique, but I can't find any examples except for those linked above.

...or Jan Jelinek. You're right, but what I'm looking for are taped little noises (coughs, xylophones, creaking doors etc.), not digital ones.

OHI HO BANG BANG!

Einstürzende Neubauten? Which track?

The very sloooooow metal band Skepticism's track "The Process Of Farmakon" has bubbling water sounds over all ten minutes of it. The sound is very prominent and sounds something like a bong, heh. The music drones, also, though maybe not in the way you're looking for (i.e. one long, continuous drone).

Ned, if that was a crack about my sex life, I'll... I'll... GRRRRRR!!!

This puter won't handle MP3s, but from the description, I'd say you're looking for sort of illbient sort of stuff? "Is That The Cat" Music like the first Main album, great chunks of E.A.R. and The Electric Company? I don't know. I'm getting distracted by the drone bit of it.

Ohi Ho Bang Bang were a Holger Hiller/Karl Bonnie (of Renegade Soundwave) sound project that sampled a lot of glam rock riffs and put lots of banging and clanging noises on top. an ACE ACE ACE single is their only discography.."The Two/The Three". I would kill for a vinyl copy.

What? No! I just thought it was a good thread for you, that's all.

Einsturzende Neubauten's "Fiat Lux" might be one that fits the bill. It has layered tapes of a street riot, cars driving on a test track, a keyboard loop, soft vocals and a crashing end.

ooooooh i remember a late night tv show in
the 80s (transmission?!)showed the video for
that Ohi Ho Bang Bang track....it was absolutely
fantastic..every time a new sound was introduced to
the song a video clip of them making the noise (chains rattling,
piano lid slammed, needle being dragged across record etc etc)
was shown, sort of video sampling.......i'm not
explaining this very well am i?
anyway i too would at least maim for a copy.....

joni, Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I know that one... it was featured in a German documentary about experimental music videos called 'Fantastic Voyages'. Unfortunately, I can't remember whether the whole thing or only a part of it was shown.

Looks like a Coldcut video, doesn't it?

jot eff pe, Thursday, 16 January 2003 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm...perhaps I should have recorded my car before I took it in to have the transmission fixed.

DB, do you have that Mute compilation with that Ohi Oh Bang Bang song on it? SO CLASSIC.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 17 January 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought that mute comp on a used tape (main st. records, high school)... that ohi oh bang bang track is so freakin' good. I really want a copy of it... my tape got munched some time back.
