ILM - The Next Generation

Right...as I said in the thread about chatrooms, new fora etc, I think that there's enough of a community here to warrant a new forum about things beside (but not excluding) music, but instead of being rude and just pressuring Tom into doing something I volunteer to set it up and maintain it myself. *HOWEVER* I have no idea about how to go about this, how much (if at all) it would cost, etc etc, so basically it's just a nice idea of mine. If anyone would like to help, well, here's the thread to volunteer.

DG, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Go here. Cost: free (except for time and possibly patience).

Josh, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's it? Ok...but what do we call it?

DG, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And is this a Q&A format board or thread based? I'll assume it's threads based. Do we want it public or private? And what's all this backlink business?

DG, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Do you want me to set it up for you? Jeez ;)

Definitely public, private forums are for wankers. Back link is the webpage that originates the forum, ie what it's in regards to (I believe). Call it I Love Chit Chat or something else lame, no one cares about that. Call it I Love DG for all I care, it's all good. Thread based, definitely.

Ally, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Right...It'll be called 'I Love Everything',and I'll set it up sometime before 11:30 pm GMT. See you there!

DG, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

dude, nobody is gonna go to a forum to chat about stupid crap when they're used to doing it here. it's like when shit little towns set up blank walls so the graf artists won't write on their precious buildings. but, you know, if you're doing it, that's okay.

ethan, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, it doesn't cost anything anyway, I just thought it would be a nice idea. Jesus, you just can't win around here.

DG, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's up now, so please go and have a look.

DG, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

what i want is a better format for the formus. here you can't edit what you've written and there are no updates on threads that have new postings in it. it's horrible.

ernest, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You can too see which threads have new posts - just click on the "new answers" thing on the main page.

As for the editing your own posts, well, sorry. You have all the time you want before you click 'submit' to reread what you type.

Josh, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i just prefer something along the lines of what pitchforkmedia has done with their new forums....just not as bloated.

ernest, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm amazed by 'DG''s new forum. It's like a parallel universe.

It would be nice to think that a lot of the garbage talked in this forum would migrate over there, but I'm not sure that such hopes should be entertained too extravagantly.

the pinefox, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, I'm sure we can come up with enough garbage to fill both forums. :-) Thanks for the vote of confidence, Pinefox, much appreciated. What does everyone else think so far?

DG, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry to be the seminaysayer, but I like the -- ahem -- 'garbage,' because I don't see it as that. I guess I'm just lamenting the perceived need for two forums where I thought one sufficed -- since the deed is done, though, there's not much more to add.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't mind threads on here going off on non-musical tangents, but it when it turns into people comparing notes on what degenerate badasses they are and what a wild weekend they had, and doing so at great length, it just shuts everyone else out of the discussion.

I Love Everything is actually starting off pretty well, as far as I can tell. It feels different from ILM.

Patrick, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And I for one learned something that will now and then help two become one

mark s, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ILE is good, not that this place isn't!

james e l, Saturday, 9 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

To have a change from the Greenspun format, I've started a board over at www.ezboard.com (enter I Love Everything into the 'jump to' box). The Greenspun ILE is still up, but I hope to move it all over to Ezboard in the near future, posters willing of course.

DG, Saturday, 9 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ignore the above post - it's staying at Greenspun after all.

DG, Sunday, 10 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Monday, 17 January 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

How did it get to be 2005?

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Monday, 17 January 2005 04:31 (twenty years ago)

Very carefully. Decade's half over!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 17 January 2005 04:31 (twenty years ago)

Ah hah, I remember this thread. It was like that time no one wanted to listen to Gallileo. Except, not really.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 17 January 2005 04:31 (twenty years ago)

What five years does to people.
