I can see that actually - I think I let my experience colour that one. I think it's usually hard to separate the name from your associations with what they do sound like unless you've heard *of* the band many times before hearing their music.

The one that surprised me most (I'd never read any reviews or descriptions of their stuff) was probably the Meat Puppets.

Wire do sound like it. Depeche Mode don't. To continue on the 80s tip Duran Duran do but Spandau Ballet mercifully don't. Little Stevie Wonder and Stevie Wonder both do but in different senses. Marvin Gaye doesn't, though. The Edge (Jaysis!) doesn't; nor does Sting.
