...in which we learn why it was so difficult to do this on a week-by-week basis. but take your shots anyway!

a) Lil' Mo's "Superwoman II" has the most amazing burbling synths, but as a song it's a bit weak - Mo's singing sounds a bit restrained, in the wrong way. I do like its deathly-slow martial strut though - reminds me of Jay-Z's "Do It Again". I hold out high hopes for Lil' Mo, because she was excellent on Missy's _Da Real World_ in my opinion.
b) Note what is up to 41 from 69 in its second week on the charts. How cool would it be if this did well?

However, I'm putting my money on #44. A no-brainer, yes, but, damn, that's a mighty fine song. Gets better every time I hear it. Gets even better each time I find myself singing (or trying to sing) the chorus. Jelly, jelly, jelly.
Death to #46, #35 (should've been LONG gone), and the Greatest Gainer, #9. What the world needs now is another Matchbox 20 like I need a whole lot of nothing.

In short, the whole thing is dismal, dismal, dismal.

Oh, and can someone please explain to me the appeal of Faith Hill? I know she's pretty and all, but her ballad-lite songs are all greyer and dingier than the dishwater at a slob's house. Like Celine minus the vocal histrionics, thus eliminating the only entertaining thing about Celine. Blech, blech, blech.
Train? Lifehouse? Who are these people? Is it just me, or has anyone noticed a shift towards these faceless one-hit guitar-pop bands? I think this may be because these bands are pliant and more eager to please pop radio and mtv than any established bands. And easier to throw away.
