I like tis band but sometimes I get sort of bored in the middle of thei r songs. Maybe if they had mroe lyrics they would be better. Maybe they should team up with a singer/lyricist, like Wesley Willis. Any thoughts?

I enjoy a few of their tracks, but for the most part, you're on to something- I think they are pretty boring. I feel like I'm pidgeonholing them by making the obvious comparison, but I'd rather listen to Cibo Matto any day. They may not be as quirky or "experimental" as Buffalo Daughter, but Cibo Matto do a better job of pulling that whole sound off. Buffalo Daughter also seem to lack personality.. I can't connect to it, and I come away feeling kind of empty. Perhaps more lyrics -would- help in that aspect.

Mmmm, description of the band on AMG fascinates me, so any recommendations?

their EP last year was a refreshing turn. it's almost like their vision creation newsun with even the lens flare head cover.

I really liked Captain Vapour Athletes and New Rock, but I kind of stop following them after that, what's the best stuff they've done since?

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 29 April 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Their album I was the fifth best record of 2002. Their new one is great too, even though it's mistakenly attributed to "Dani Siciliano" and called Likes.... That's quite a mixup!

Jack Burton, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 22:57 (eighteen years ago)

i really like The New Rock. haven't heard anything else.

i almost listened to Butter 08 this morning, but then i listened to Yes instead.

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

STEREOTYPE C STILL AWESOME

JW, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, New Rock has been one of my favorites lately, and some of the stuff on I is really beautiful. It made me curious as to what they've been up to lately. There's some great stuff on Captain Vapour Atheletes as well. Silver Turkey should be a classic!

It's called The Weapons of Math Destruction (regrettable name, amirite), but it's back to the insistent proggy tones of Pshychic and i after the diversion that was their last album.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 7 November 2010 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

listening to captain vapor athletes, such a fucking great record. gets no love due to its fragmentary and aggressive nature, i suppose, but i love it to death. not quite as much as new rock, but damn close. too bad it's one of the ugliest GREAT 90s records, this side of braniac's smack bunny baby. curious about weapons of math destruct.

BOXCAR! BOXCAR! With an A. (contenderizer), Saturday, 20 November 2010 04:55 (fourteen years ago)

If you haven't heard Pshychic from 2003, get thee to it now.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 20 November 2010 04:58 (fourteen years ago)

haven't heard anything past i. i thought they broke up! will get me to it.

BOXCAR! BOXCAR! With an A. (contenderizer), Saturday, 20 November 2010 05:06 (fourteen years ago)

i thought they broke up!

Nope. They just don't have a US deal anymore.

Pshychic is completely rad, beginning to end.
Euphorica (from 2006) is kind of a funky left turn. Less kraut, more...hmm, something.
The Weapons of Math Destruction (from 2010) is somewhere in the middle.

so, I was checking out the new record from the band with yumiko and jeff mills over the weekend
https://spiraldeluxe.bandcamp.com/album/the-love-pretender

imo a big improvement on the last one and kinda realizes what this lineup is capable of

anyway, while digging around, I found this "YMO" (yumiko morgan oscillators, heh) record with a guy from... mott the hoople (?!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9IXHmIMX2U

and now I have to hear this one

Yumiko does the Frippertronics on hand-modeled modular synth on Salyu x Salyu's live cover of "The Hammond Song":

she even does a guest vox for one line:
"They say we'll meet again on down the line~~~"

that's fantastic
