So yeah, her last hoorah before becoming Singing Ovary Extraordinaire. It's quite startling to see how quickly she lost her touch and experimental inclination (within the piano/acoustic guitar intimate singer-songwriter context).

Given that she's only put out one real album since FtE, "quickly" and "lost" don't seem like the right terms. She'd have to make one or two more records that sounded as conservative as Surfacing before I'd take that as a permanent decision. Although if you don't even think Solace counted as a "hoorah", then maybe you've kind of predetermined your own answer to this...

"Possession" and "Hold On" are great, although the version of the latter on the NO ALTERNATIVE compilation was wholly superior to the one on this album. I agree that this was her final stomachable album prior to succumbing to full-on Lillithicity.
