Is there any room?

London is awash with club nights/rooms in pubs playing music etc etc. But a mate and I really want to put one on, playing a mix of windy electronic stuff, a bit of ska, a bit of soul and maybe a bit of oldish/(not the sort of stuff you'd hear downstairs at the Garage say) indie.

Is there room for yet another night? Would more than two people turn up to a night like this?

Put it on in Exeter and I'll go.

The thing is nights are stopping all the time too so the answer is probably yes. Also Chris you have a readymade audience here, sort of anyway. Steve and I are going to do Club Freaky Trigger soon, honest, and while we expect very very small numbers it shouldn't be a total wipeout. (fingers crossed). The thing is finding a venue I suppose.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 February 2003 16:38 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, Jonnie and I have been talking about doing this for ages and recent things have made it far more important (ie needing to do something vaguely creative and working on something that I actually want to do rather than need to do to get money).

It's all a question of logistics really.

How about ClubNed?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 6 February 2003 16:48 (twenty-three years ago)

What frequency were you thinking of anyway?

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 February 2003 16:49 (twenty-three years ago)

How about ClubNed?

*befuddled*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 February 2003 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

chris (chris), Thursday, 6 February 2003 17:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to put on an occasional club night in dublin in some venue that holds 20 people, basically so that I can play my records at people, but am too lazy to do anything about it. So top marks to anyone who gives it a go.

I'm planning to do this too. But I'm really trying to find somewhere more like a bar where people can sit and listen as well as dance.

Probably half ILM are DJs and the other half wannabe DJs (I'm in the second category) Perhaps we can start "Club ILM", running alternate months in London and New York (and maybe other cities where ILMers hang out)

If anyone in NY wants to dj at Last Exit, a bar on Atlantic Av (cobble hill/bklyn heights neighbourhood) in Brooklyn, let me know. If free beer is enough of an incentive (possibly a tiny bit of cash too), let me know. I play there every other Saturday, and there are openings on other nights sometimes I think. It's a nice place, laidback punters blah blah...
I would say it would be totally possible to set up a revolving ILM night, and its not at all hard to get there from Manhattan...

Conor (Conor), Friday, 7 February 2003 04:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Snowy - think Autechre/Aphex/Warp stuff

Phil J - exactly what we want to do, although dancing punters are always welcome

chris (chris), Friday, 7 February 2003 09:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I would be like SO into this

C'est What does that sorta thing on Tuesdays, but that being Toronto not London is all good. I think they called it Ambient Ping.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 7 February 2003 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

The ILX fairy godmother sez "...all you London kids should band together and do a night together..."

I want to do a night when I move to NYC in the next year or so. Death Cab for Cutie said I was the best DJ they'd ever heard. (heh)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 7 February 2003 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

best idea for name so far = yoink

it sums up our mixing capabilities perfectly.

chris (chris), Monday, 10 February 2003 10:53 (twenty-three years ago)

yoink and oops are the dj combo of the future.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 10 February 2003 15:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey! we've got a provisional date now April the 3rd. Yes, the night before ATP.

Just need a venue now. Checking one out in Chalk Farm tonight.

Keep 'em peeled.
