College Dropout is not out, although finally having a video out is encouraging (although a lot of people lately have had videos out for months whie still delaying the album). the last release date I heard was back in August and that didn't happen so I don't know what's up. anyone have any solid info? October?

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 21 September 2003 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

feb. 2004

vibe review it (positively) this month. from everything i've heard, dame dash isn't happy with the results though. in the xxl piece a couple of months ago, kanye expressed a lot of frustration with the roc.

s>c>, Monday, 22 September 2003 03:09 (twenty-one years ago)

damn, you're right, February, look at this: http://www.sohh.com/article_print.php?content_ID=5028

I really wanted his album to drop this year just so I wouldn't have to shoehorn one of his mixtapes onto my top 10. oh well. that's one thing that sucks about the Roc sometimes...every fall they've got a new Jay album to put all their focus on, and everything else either gets out way before that or has to wait until the next year. but I guess Bleek and MOP have been on the waiting list even longer than him.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 22 September 2003 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

man the rapping on "thru the wire" gets lamer each time i listen -- like the delivery is pretty leaden. the punchlines have been getting better tho.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 22 September 2003 05:05 (twenty-one years ago)

he paid for the video out of his own pocket? what's happening here? i hope the buzz is still there when his album drops next year. hopefully he'll knock out a couple of good productions and guest rhymes on other people's records until then.

rob geary (rgeary), Monday, 22 September 2003 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i think his momentum should be fine, he's been keeping a pretty high profile lately, i mean, he produced Luda's lead single (although from the sounds of it, I'm pretty sure "Stand Up" is the work of Brian "All Day" Miller, who Kanye's taken under his wing as a co-producer like he used to work for D-Dot.)

i've heard a lot of haters who've only heard him rap on "Through the Wire" criticize his voice, apparently unaware of the fact that his jaw was really wired when he recorded it. granted, he's still kinda mushmouthed even before the accident and since recovering, though. one of the reasons I like him as an MC is that he's not afraid to drop some goofy punchlines, even on tracks that don't really need it.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 22 September 2003 05:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Stand Up credited as a Kanye production then? I was wondering about that for a while. doesn't exactly sound like him, but that killer bass-line seems really KW for some reason...

Adrian (Adrian Langston), Monday, 22 September 2003 06:07 (twenty-one years ago)

it's credited to Kanye, yeah, at least in every reference to the song's production that I've seen. it sounds kinda Kanye, but I realized the other day that it sounds more like the tracks on I'm Good that are credited to All Day.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 22 September 2003 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
I just heard Through The Wire. That's gotta be one of the weirdest debuts ever. Rapping with his jaw wired shut over an old Chaka Kahn single spinning at 78rpm? And not just using it for the hook, but letting it run through the whole song? That's so great.

BrianB, Wednesday, 8 October 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

you are off da hook and i admire your work. i would love for you to get in contact with me even tho you might hear this from alot of people but you are one of the few artists that keep it "real" get at me tho you wont be disappointed. maritzabanton@hotmail.com

I really like the "Through the Wire" track. I would like to more about your story.

TCole, Saturday, 18 October 2003 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

my story? well it all started when i was 13. i used to have a pretty bad underbite that they hoped to fix with braces, but i got into a scuffle with a "friend" which resulted in the loss of a few teeth. my braces were fresh on my face, so my teeth were sorta floating in my head, loose as a goose.they just popped out. but they were actually able to put the teeth back in, but i had to remain wired shut for a few months. the idea of fixing my bite with braces was out of the question because my teeth were just too fragile now. i had to eat ensure for lunch and a boost for breakfast. 6years down the line the decided i needed jaw surgery to fix my bite and all the problems this scuffle caused. so i put back on the braces and had jaw surgery. 6more weeks of being wired shut and eating tons of milkshakes. good story?

Hey Lena,

What's good, girl? It's good to see Southside represented on here.

I am real busy today -- picking out wardrobe for the second video off the album -- but I'll try to get in touch. Yo what does the "dipples" in your email mean? Cause I know that ain't a part of the Kanye Workout Plan hehehheh. So yeah, I'd be real interested in seeing Bronzeville represented in the next video when we decide on the third single. I'd be real interested in seeing you, nahmean?

One thing I noticed on this message board is they not discussing my music; there's only hateration and non-sequitur-spitting suckers. Hey Lena, let's go somewhere quiet.

That's your boy,

I don't think Kanye ever willingly went by "Kayne", like he says in that new song about his plaques saying "Kayne", probably a lot of labels fucked up his name on the liner notes. I remember the first time I heard his name pronounced was Jay on "Guess Who's Back" and that's when I started to realize how many songs he produced that I liked and started really checking for him.

deej.., Friday, 5 August 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

kayne i met him at Ruessell Simmons hip hop summit in 2001. It was my first time I had gone to a music conference as an inspiring hip hop artist. I heard you flow with one of our artist on Blok Watch records.
At that time, I knew you were going to be a star. It made me realize I needed to step my game up. And when you asked me to flow I was so afraid. No confidence! Now if you were to ask me I know I would kill it! Im hungry and I need dat chance to change the game right.Back against the wall the industry is callin yall in trouble now they done finally let this broad in spit so raw and raps been fallin Im here now beware now to long a chick been starvin. Talking dust refers to God creating you from dirt and breathing life into you, yet at times you talk out of your head without wisdom as if you have no hint of God in you (like the walking talking spiritually and in your case mentally dead) and that's when I called you "talking dust". I was calling you stupid, but in a really nice way.

Keep me out of your lies and conversations.
