If Bristol were Bakersfield. If Pigpen's brain was transplanted into Jerry Garcia. If Scotland were Mexico. If all the crystalline snot Stevie Nicks ever produced were shaped into a humanoid. If shoegazers had chickenwire scratches on their boots to count while staring down there. If indie chicks could sing.

If Bristol were Bakersfield.

In four words, Dave Q reminds me why he's a genius.

(Alt MS thought - re "FIY", don't you hate it when one song that sounds the exact same as all their others gets mysteriously picked as a 'breakthrough', 'standout' etc. - why? Cuz it was a single? Esp. mystifying, ppl who say "I liked 'Fade' but not their other stuff", I don't see any difference! Whatever...)

("indie chix" inc. P Smith, D Harry, PJ Harvey, K Shields)

No!! FYI is special, it has that mysterious emotional star-quality about it, for some reason its gently fading wash of melody can be endlessly repeated without one getting sick of it. Other tracks = lack repeat value

I liked their other stuff, but not 'Fade'.

Their most overrated song. It's no "Disappear" or "Halah", that's for damn sure.

That whole 1990 album is overrated. Halah. Blah

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 11:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm. I'd be curious to hear someone explain exactly what they think the difference is between the three records.

Other than the songs, obviously.

Well ask Rolling Stone, I think they gave 4 stars to the '90 one and 2 to the one FYI is on. Not that their reviews mean that much, but at least back then i think the stars counted for something

Isn't one more "bluesy" or perhaps "psychedelic" than the other ?

five months pass...
"Mover furtivamente a través de la frontera durante un llevar de la tempestad de polvo a bebés muertos llenaron con cocaína"

(re 'Finnegans Wake', what was more audacious, attempting to demonstrate the existence of 'subjectivity' in an 'objective' format, or going ahead and imposing a schematic structure on same that incidentally contained its own 'antithesis'?)

My abiding memory of Hope Sandoval is Mazzy Star touring with the JAMC and her getting in a strop and storming offstage because there was FEEDBACK when she was trying to sing her silly duet, and Jim Reid sniggering like mad...

MS/JAMC = "White Rabbit"/"We Built This City"

Listen to the latest Death In Vegas album for some proper gorgeous Hope S contributions.

That is all.

the b-sides on her latest single are better than everything on her album
