I thought this was some classic shit; back in the day it waas all over the place; but I feel cheated.

Nik (Nik), Monday, 3 February 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a TOTAL classic. Wonderful, wonderful song.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 February 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

as i was saying to blueski on wednesday night at bdd, this record is the record that sums up the 90s most accurately

gareth (gareth), Monday, 3 February 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Best thing Stonebridge ever did!

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 3 February 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i was never much a fan of it, but at the time it first came out female vocal US house was my idea of hell...i later came to adore anything like that sung by India however

i know Robin's got a deeper voice and there's more of a soulful vibe on 'Show Me Love' compared to 'Finally', 'Gypsy Woman', 'Do You Want It Right Now', 'Too Blind To See It' and 'Got To Have Your Love' but i seem to prefer all those tracks myself

i dont think it can sum up the 90s unlike gareth, but it does remind me of a certain period when the tune WAS the big big club anthem of its time, ala Livin Joy's 'Dreamer', Barbara Tucker's 'Beautiful People' and so on.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought "infinity" by guru josh best summed up the 90s

Nik (Nik), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Total classic (and a huge mainstream hit in France, strangely enough, alongside tunes by Rozalla or Haddaway).

Etienne Menu (Etienne), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 09:07 (twenty-two years ago)

"infinity" by guru josh

God, that tune was bad. What ever happened to that guy anyway?

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

show me love was great but there were some equally good stonebridge tunes like subterranea's do it for love. it was a grebt sound: the deeeep strings, the hollow bass and the skippy garage beats. btw. has anyone heard the todd edwards remix that came out a few years after the original release 'cause it's proper!

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I like tAtU's "Show Me Love", all except for the last verse. Man, is this album came out when I was in junior high, I would have died probably. Instead the unfortunate sad-girl-guiding-light album was Hello by Poe. tAtU = much much better for jr high Plath-inflated phantasies (of sadness, sadly, not girls kissing).

Fivvy, Tuesday, 4 February 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Guru Josh became Dr Devious shortly into the 90s and continued to DJ under that name up til at least '96 - i have no idea what happened to him after than tho - i bet he has a farm out in Ibiza and has four kids named Seth, Ham, Joshula and Barabbas

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont think it can sum up the 90s unlike gareth

i just realised the pundom therein

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

When I hear that organ bass sound (originally a preset off the Korg M1 although lots of keyboards have something similar now) I still like calling it 'Robin S bass' partly because that's one of the earliest records (was it actually the first?) I associate with that sound plus I quite like it that the kids into 2 step garage where I work don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.

David (David), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"show me love" rules. That organ bass sound reminds me of Nightcrawlers - "Push the Feeling On" too. there are so many classic 'sounds' in house: how about the horns in Jomanda's "Got a Love For You" - even more compressed and artificial sounding than Human League's "Fascination"!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 01:12 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
I agree with stevem on this one. When this one came out I thought it was shit compared to some of the deep stuff MAW was putting out (ESPECIALLY "Beautiful People"). Heck, I'd go for Paula Abdul's "Vibology" before this... but somewhere along the way, this one got the VH-1 cred.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

VH-1 cred?!

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Eric, that makes no sense.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahh "Show me Love" is sooperb. But it doesn't hold a candle to "Hideaway" by De'Lacy

j0e (j0e), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Now THAT's a classic.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus. I was just referring to "Show Me Love" being the only nineties house track outside of "Vogue" to show up on VH-1's "100 Greatest Dance Songs" list.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

VH-1 has absolutely nothing to do with why I like that song. In fact, I didn't even know VH-1 knew about it.

"Show Me Love" is tied into my memories of my college party scene along with "100% Pure Love", "Rhythm Is A Dancer", "More and More", "Finally", "Boom Boom Boom", "I Like To Move It" and "Mr. Vain". They were the great equalizers that let me get away with blasting Acen, Orbital and The Prodigy at people during parties. I love them and want them to have my bouncy diva-house (or pervert-house) babies.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
the todd edwards remix sounds like the startrack on nintendo mariokart

zemko (bob), Saturday, 5 April 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

zemko (bob), Saturday, 5 April 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Dud....

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 5 April 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

HUGE classic. hearing Herbert drop it into a DJ set 6 or so weeks ago was my live-experience highlight of the year so far

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 5 April 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

see, when you guys were talking about how great ace of base were, i tried to see your point of view and i just couldn't. now thanks to that foreign flick about the lesbian schoolgirls, i can see the GREBTness that is 'show me love'. thank you lesbian schoolgirls!

*sings peter cetera song* you bring feeeeling to my liiieeffe, you're the inspiraaatioooonnn

Dave M. (rotten03), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

five years pass...

Classic! ;-D

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 15:02 (seventeen years ago)

In your remix of Robin S. "Show Me Love” it has been said you used Korg M1 synthesizer to create the special sound that's significant for that song - a sound that has been copied many time since then. How did you know you wanted to add that sound to the track?

“I had no idea about what sound to use, but from an earlier remix I had the bass line programmed with preset No 16 in the M1, which is called Pick Bass. The label didn't like the mix and I decided to do a new mix and the first thing I did was to change the bass sound, incidentally to preset 17, the organ. Completely accidental and this taught me that accidents are good so I switch a lot of sound to things that shouldn't work and get interesting results."

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

Classic, classic, classic.

Eazy, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 15:07 (seventeen years ago)

I was deeeeeep in the wrong upthread.

Eric H., Wednesday, 23 July 2008 15:08 (seventeen years ago)

o man do i love this song

andrew m., Wednesday, 23 July 2008 15:14 (seventeen years ago)

Of course it's a classic. Sounds best played quite fast.

chap, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 15:17 (seventeen years ago)

Utterly classic and probably one of the most ubiquitous songs of the 90's

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

lots of awesome memories attached to this song. so so classic

impudent harlot, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

i remember spinning parties back then and this was the song the every dj played even if the guy right before you played it.

carne asada, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 16:03 (seventeen years ago)

What are the best remixes other than the Stonebridge?

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

CLASSIC!

P4ul K3nnedy has a great story about being in Washington D.C. at a party the month this song came out and seeing the reaction of the crowd to it. Maybe he can come along and tell it.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

Not usually a fan of Junior Vasquez, but this 10-min. live "Show Me Love" workout's pretty jackworthy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZQKotELfH8

Craig D., Wednesday, 23 July 2008 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

Words are so easy to say, you've got to show me love.

Bodrick III, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

stirmonster, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:22 (seventeen years ago)

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 01:43 (seventeen years ago)

He's not a toy, he's not a plaything!

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 02:01 (seventeen years ago)

Classic of classics. Serious middle school flashbacks to this one.

matt2, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

andrew m., Monday, 18 January 2010 21:30 (fifteen years ago)

Not sure about in Chicago but the electro-house retooling from about a year or two ago was ridiculously ubiquitous generally - had the unfortunate consequence of making the original seem a bit slow whenever I hear it now.

It is a song that people go crazy to though, I think I fell in love a bit watching this hot dude dance enthusiastically to the remix at a club in Perth about 12 months ago.

Tim F, Monday, 18 January 2010 22:59 (fifteen years ago)

so classic! it was so funny djing when this came out cuz the all 4 guys before you would play it but you still had to anyways. always tryin to find a new/cool way to mix it in was key.

carne asada, Monday, 18 January 2010 23:26 (fifteen years ago)

yeah like im listenin to it now and its pretty good and all, but i swear, but any sort of chemical in me and thisll make my eyes turn backwards

plaxico (I know, right?), Monday, 18 January 2010 23:29 (fifteen years ago)

chemical could mean coffee tbh

plaxico (I know, right?), Monday, 18 January 2010 23:30 (fifteen years ago)

think i may have heard this record in a wider variety of situations than any other

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 18 January 2010 23:50 (fifteen years ago)

saw DJ Marky play some refix or use an acapella of this last week (right before crashing from 190bpm mentalism into Good Life by Inner City), the MC was desperately encouraging ppl to sing along

Your Sinclair magazine (sic), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 01:11 (fifteen years ago)

when i used to dj w/ilxor san frandisco, he told me if he could veto me from playing any song of mine, this would be it

jaxon, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 04:39 (fifteen years ago)

That's like a veto on chocolate and flowers.

Tim F, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 04:55 (fifteen years ago)

god that recent version of it was so horrible, no slinkiness, just bosh, and the new vocal was worse too, it was almost as bad as that vocal 'strings of life' someone did a few years back

jabba hands, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 05:01 (fifteen years ago)

driving forever with this track on repeat on the way to another show on a crazy tour = one of the best things ever.

arch-enemy Gay Cowboy Monster (the table is the table), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 07:51 (fifteen years ago)

i actually don't really understand how one can hate on this song.

i'm also partial to the Kerri Chandler version:

What is it with people called "Robin" and songs called "Show Me Love" ?

6 Robin S Show Me Love Mar 1993
8 Robyn Show Me Love Mar 1998

Mark G, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 10:23 (fifteen years ago)

if you mean people called either "Robin S" or "Robyn" yeah i dunno!

btw Robyn's recent acoustic version of her own song pwns

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:39 (fifteen years ago)

God, so Classic. I'd agree with upthread comments of mini-revival in the last two years. I'm always have with me when I play out but sadly often forget...

De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 17:27 (fifteen years ago)

i assume its recent upsurge is due to the general deep house revival? i have to say - in london it feels like it's always popular every year
