I keep checking Wiki for updates, because I'm not seeing anything anywhere else: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Block_Party_%28album%29

Since Chinese Democracy finally came out, I figure it's a race between Block Party and Detox to see which eventually takes the longest to complete.

Dre has a six-year headstart on Missy, or vice versa, depending on whether you win by taking longer or vice versa

honestly i just don't want this to come out at all - the last few things she appeared on she just sounded like she'd just run out of both ideas and desire. there's no shame in great careers coming to a natural conclusion.

I stopped caring sometime after Under Construction. Still a great run of first four albums though.

A brownish area with points (chap), Monday, 6 December 2010 12:55 (fourteen years ago)

with ghosts of early '00s pop rap like Nelly and Eminem making comebacks, I could totally see Missy being successful again, but it probably wouldn't be very good. I'd like to see her teach Minaj how it's done, though. she seems like she's given up on putting out Block Party and is just coasting along doing production on R&B albums.

six months pass...

Missy Elliott has revealed that she's been suffering with Graves' disease -- an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid -- as of 2008.

Missy reportedly shared details of the diagnosis with People Magazine, saying that the symptoms -- including mood swings and weight loss --- affected her quickly and unexpectedly.

"I was [driving and] trying to put my foot on the brake, but my leg was jumping. I couldn't keep the brake down and almost crashed," Elliott said. "I couldn't write because my nervous system was so bad -- I couldn't even use a pen."

Elliott has been going through radiation and exercising, which fortunately has improved her condition. "I'm 30 pounds lighter because I've been exercising." Elliott continues. "My thyroid is functioning, so I haven't had to take medication in about nine months. [But] you live with it for the rest of your life."

As Missy continues as a champ, fighting through her disease, which unfortunately has no cure as of yet, she's working on new music with long time friend and collaborator, Timbaland. Elliott will be featured on VH1's 'Behind the Music,' further discussing her battle with Graves' disease, weight issues, and being sexually molested as a child.

You can catch Elliott's 'Behind the Music' special on Wednesday, June 29 at 10 PM.

pretty much everything about that song is middling unfortunately :\

dyl, Friday, 23 August 2019 22:17 (six years ago)

Missy made such an amazing run of singles/albums probably all the way up to cookbook. It does feel like her inventiveness largely dissipated, seemingly overnight. It's a strange mystery, but nothing from the last ten years has a hint of that manic unbridled energy of her classic stuff. I would be disappointed except that there's such an insane abundance of stuff to go back to.

plax (ico), Saturday, 24 August 2019 10:51 (six years ago)

This is like okay but nothing to really get excited about. There have been times I've really tried to make myself feel it, but I've given up.

plax (ico), Saturday, 24 August 2019 10:53 (six years ago)

I think WTF and I’m Better are both excellent, not remotely a drop off from the previous decade. But yeah the new EP is just ho hum.

sctttnnnt (pgwp), Saturday, 24 August 2019 16:51 (six years ago)

those are my two favourite as well, but her singles used to shoehorn in the hook from another album track, and they often felt like they jumped around all over the place. I'm Better in particular is much more "minimal" than she ever used to be. I don't think the new stuff is terrible, but it doesn't have that giddy boundlessness. i guess she is also like middle-aged now although she looks basically the same age.

plax (ico), Saturday, 24 August 2019 16:55 (six years ago)

Totally agree about "WTF."

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 24 August 2019 16:58 (six years ago)

I like "WTF" almost as much as anything she's ever done. In a perfect world, that would've been the "September" on her greatest hits LP.
