Can anyone recommend any good high level online lessons or exercises for bass or guitar?

Not sure I can recommend online lessons because I've never tried them but there are a number of bass and guitar forums where people will try help you out. Try Talkbass, ActiveBass, WholeNote, and the guitar and bass forums at musicgearnetwork. (If you have difficulty locating these let me know). Some of these have lessons, advice on theory and all have internationally respected players who will give free advice.

four years pass...

I've been taking guitar lessons for almost a year, from the same fellow who teaches my daughter piano. We're working with classical pieces, which I love (sight-reading music is an exciting challenge). Every once in a while, though, I like working with rock songs. He loves rock, too, so we dabble in some stuff, but I've found a wealth of online lessons that provide easy instruction in songs I know.

For instance, I thought this guy did a nice job with Radiohead:

Karma Police

Others, anyone? "Revive," I guess.

thirteen years pass...

anybody got a recommendation for a good online guitar lesson site/service/etc? doesn't have to be free. doesn't need to be one on one, can be self study.

I want to improve but I only took like, shitty lessons from someone's dad when I was 16 and I have limited skills that I want to open up. obviously most ppl hear pro bably know what music I wanna play but I don't need Michael Angelo Batio to teach me.

Just wanna be slightly less shitty, more interested in being a solid rhythm player that can play complicated rhythm stuff and occasionally do a tasteful lead than a shredder.

Paul Gilbert is a very musical player. Might sign up for 3 months myself, as I'm stuck in a rut of playing the same shit lately.
