Reading so far is alleged according to www.nme.com to be Metallica, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. V2003 is Coldplay and RHCP. T In The Park is REM and Coldplay. Glastonbury is rumoured to be Coldplay,Radiohead and someone really old and crap on the sunday as usual.
Things dont look good.
At least ATP isnt a guitarfest this year. But will it be any good?

Ah, the 'Summer Sanitarium' tour. Read Metal Sludge's http://www.metal-sludge.com/RandomThoughtomThoughtsMetallicaPR.htm">http://www.metal-sludge.com/RandomThoughtsMetallicaPR.htm">visioon of same and larf, loud and long and clear.

haha "Limp Bizkit, led by multi-talented frontman Fred Durst multi-talents? Changing the color of your baseball hat doesn't mean you're talented. burst on to the rock scene in 1997 with their masterpiece, Three Dollar Bill, Y'all$, If Three Dollar Bill is a masterpiece, what does that make Led Zeppelin's catalog? and are credited with single-handedly re-invigorating the rock genre by changing the face of alternative and rock radio. Re-invigorating the rock genre by launching a million clone bands that clogged up the airways and watered down the entire scene. Thanks. Having sold 28 million albums worldwide with just 3 studio releases, their last studio album Chocolate Starfish and The Hot Dog Flavored Water, sold 13 million copies worldwide and is certified platinum in 33 countries. Going platinum in foreign countries is a joke. I've been over this before. It is the only rock record in the history of Sound Scan to sell over 1 million copies in its first week of sales. Too bad their fan base is onto the next fad. The band's long awaited follow up, Lessismore is tentatively set to be released May of 2003. It'll hit discount bins the 2nd week of June. "

Mudvayne and Deftones too!!
"In addition, Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003 is proud to announce Deftones and Mudvayne to the line-up. The other 3 bands need a few bands they can shit on and treat like shit. Deftones are currently putting the finishing touches on their as yet untitled 4th record once again produced by Terry Date. The record will be released this June. Mudvayne, The Peoria, Illinois, quartet are supporting their second album, When they're not getting their picture taken with The Indigo Girls. The End of All Things To Come following the gold success of their debut L.D. 50.. "

Why not go the whole hog and get Motley Crue play and for some REAL METAL CRED to please the 'Old Fans ™' get MANOWAR.

Please dont let this be the Reading/Leeds line-up. well Leeds can have it, who cares. Just save us Reading punters like you did last year with G 'n' R.

Handsome Dick Manitoba, Thursday, 6 February 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

"I remember at one time Metallica did what they wanted to do. They didn't follow the bandwagon. But for most of the 90s that's all they've done. They're not leading the pack anymore, they're just doing what everybody else is doing. Lars says that Fred Durst is contrived and he hates contrived people, but Metallica is just as contrived as Fred ever was. They actually belong together.

I can understand why Metallica is doing this tour. They need to hit up the young kids who listen to Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit so they can look trendy and hip. Even if a lot of metal fans don't like it, the entire run will probably sell out. I would love for it to fail and for both Metallica and Limp Bizkit to have CDs that don't sell, but I know better. Unless the fans of the world prove me wrong, this will go over huge. Oh well.

I'd write more but it's hard for me to really care.

I'm out like Lars' hairline,"

Surely noone thinks Metallica are only doing this to sell albums?
Oh wait millions of fans who accept any shit from them probably will defend them.
Metallica zealots are worse than Oasis and Michael Jackson zealots.

Handsome Dick Manitoba, Thursday, 6 February 2003 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Are we old farts because we don't appreciate Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park? Even contrived bands like Coldplay are trying to steal our aged mindshare yet we resist.

I'm listening to more of my old records lately, but keeping my ears to the ground. Raw Power went on this morning, and it's really... truly... Raw. Love it.

If I were to put on a Reading Festival here in NY, I'd invite:

Trent Reznor to be the headliner... cuz you gotta make your money, and he's an old fart who refuses to give it up.

Hot Snakes and Enon - two former work colleagues, and currently popular...

Jason Lowenstein, Interpol, Wire, Peaches, Mike Watt and friends, Henry Rollins.

Depeche Fucking Mode! Those geezers are still around...

I'm sure I'm missing a lot of obvious invites, but help me out here...

What would be the BEST FESTIVAL LINEUP *ever*?

ANyone remember ITV's 'RAW POWER' I forget what it was called before and after that., But The guy (Phil someone?) who was editor of RAW (whatever happened to that magazine?) who then went on to Edit KERRANG presented it with some female bon jovi fan who he always slagged off. Krusher presented the follow up show. I cant remember its name. Damn thats so annoying.
Best bit ever of Raw Power was Krusher at Reading festival interviewing Babes In Toyland, and his put on for tv/radio accent came as a shock to them(he obviously spoke normally off camera) and they fell about laughing and Kat Bjelland started speaking in a stupid voice too and Krusher was trying not to laugh.
Oh god getting nostalgic for Raw Power. can it get worse?

Handsome Dick Manitoba, Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

> can it get worse?

ATP's line up is a big two fingers to the Dirty Vicar. I can take a hint.

I'm looking forward to Glastonbury. maybe this year I will achieve my ambition of seeing no bands whatsoever on the main stages.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 6 February 2003 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I heard a rumour that the sunday headliner at reading may well be Prince. ATP is just going to be unbelievable this year. Even just for the chance to stand in the same room as the guy who bought the shotgun the Mr. Cobain did his head with.

"Reading so far is alleged according to www.nme.com to be Metallica, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit."

Let's just hope that's the Sunday line-up (Sunday usually seems to be crap at Reading lately) and they get someone decent on Friday and Saturday....

As for Leeds, I think it'll be best if there isn't a festival at Leeds in the wake of the trouble there last year because Reading seems to have gone rapidly downhill the last couple of years.

"Handsome Dick Manitoba"? I've seen you in Reading before, haven't I? It was at The Top Rank in '77 when The Dictators were supporting The Stranglers....

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 16 January 2006 13:40 (twenty years ago)

i heard a rumour Reading tickets aren't going onsale until august 1st to stop people selling them on ebay.

So far Muse and The Strokes are rumoured for Reading

while Radiohead and Red Hot Chili Peppers are being talked about for V.

I would be suprised if Yeah Yeah Yeahs weren't at either of those.

Hairy Asshurt (Toaster), Monday, 16 January 2006 14:13 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

is there a festivals 2010 thread?
is this the all purpose festival thread?

i want to plan a trip somewhere to see a bunch of bands in a city far from my home. big music festivals are sort of out because i don't like being around that many people or seeing bands in that type of atmosphere. i just want to see a bunch of bands curated by someone or other. like the million tongues festival in chicago, but not in chicago.

ideas?

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 2 November 2009 15:28 (sixteen years ago)

Trip Maker, Monday, 2 November 2009 15:49 (sixteen years ago)

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:50 (sixteen years ago)

three months pass...

Ok so I can't make it to Big Ears, but I want to go somewhere the weekend of April 3 instead
Can anyone suggest a good way to help me decide where to go by allowing me to browse shows booked for that weekend?
Is there a website for that?

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 23:54 (sixteen years ago)

I mean, aside from GOOGLE
So far I found some sort of Florida Old Time Music championship, but I want to see what all of my options are without poring through the music listings of dozens of local weeklies. I also don't really want to go to Florida.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 23:55 (sixteen years ago)

Go to ATP, there's only 3,000 ppl and it's always lovingly curated
