why is it that when people abbreviate the C-word with an X, they alwasy stick in a T after? eg, Xtina & Xtian music
I mean, does X not inclued the T in ChrisT? Or did I miss another memo from the Vatican?

cos Xina and Xian look like Bond villainesses?

g.cannon (gcannon), Thursday, 6 February 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

good enough.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 6 February 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, not good enough. That's bullshit man. What's the point of abbreviating something, if you're just going to add an extra letter?

Like damnit.

Sorry to nitpick, but shouldn't it be 'Xina songs'? I mean we don't use Xtmas

It's not 'Chrissina', so the spelling is OTM.

So it's Chrismas then?

After pasting this, I realized I don't actually give a fuck.

I think we should talk about the HIV virus, instead.

Oops (Oops), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, who's got it?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

...that wasn't meant to seem glib...

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I changed my mind, we should talk about ATM machines. Don't you hate having to punch in your PIN number all the time?

I dayjob as a journo, and have seen a lot of style guides, and this is one of the best I've seen online.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, that guide is absolutely indispensable

Mind you, when I freelance for by-the-word fees, sometimes I do just the opposite of what I should be doing and try to stretch pieces out with as many of those little unneccessary and not-needed words and phrases and bunches of words as I can.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Personally and for my own part I think of that, the aforementioned, as not only a sensible course of action or thing to do but one that, indeed, also makes a great deal of logical and rational sense in the mind of he who is considering the amount of sense that it might actually make of itself.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

right.

g.cannon (gcannon), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

It's cuz the next letter can't be a vowel.

Xtian works, whereas Xian looks like it spells "zion" which is a bit coincidental, but ironic too in a way.

The exception being:
X-o-rama, because of the hyphens.
