Twenty seconds of greatness in an otherwise crap song

I could listen to the solo in No Doubt's "Hella Good" over and over again. The rest of it makes me think of the 8-bit dungeon music in the original Super Mario Bros.

I'm going to hate myself for saying something as predictable as this, but the 8-bit dungeon music in Super Mario Bros was really great.

I saw Athlete at some point, right, and they were the most boring thing in the world, but at some point near the end I was jolted awake by a really good insane theramin + assorted noise rock-out before they sank back into blandness again. Dunno the song.

Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion" isn't exactly crap, but it's pretty average nothin' special Rock Stuff that Van Halen could do in their bourbon-wracked uneasy night-sweating sleep. That post-psychedelic floating-through-ether opening, though...

The guitar solo in Jimmy Eat World's "The Middle" is pretty cool, and refreshingly different from what you might have expected.

"sweet emotion" is practically stax compared to halen, halen were way more william gibson than downhome aerosmith. but that opening is indeed awesome, like I wish dj shadow sounded more

The guitar duet on "Hotel California".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 7 February 2003 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

the bridge to "Underneath it All" and the solo from "Hella Good"

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 7 February 2003 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

The bridge to "With or Without You."

the bridge to Yukari Fresh's "Yukarin Disco." completely kicks the sorry arse of the rest of the song---i almost want to cry when it's all over. ;.;

I always loved the intro to "march of pigs" by NIN with the non-4/4 drumming then the kewl synth bleeps come in, but once the geetars and singing come in, blaaaah.

The chorus of 'More than a Feeling'

Always thought the brief intro to "In God's Country" by U2 (on THE JOSHUA TREE) was quite intriguing (plucked electric guitar strings over strummed accoustic), but they drop the ball when Edge hits that echo pedal and ends up ejaculating all over the track.

About 20% of Merzbow tracks.

The organ-ish riff on Ice MC's "It's a Rainy Day"

Curtis Stephens, Sunday, 16 February 2003 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

arcwelder's "it's a wonderful lie" from 'pull' has a really cool riff, but they just repeat it over and over... which is a great idea

lungfish do that with every song(blue sky, et al)

brando (brando), Monday, 17 February 2003 06:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I always liked the ominous piano intro to "Old Time Rock 'N' Roll."

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 17 February 2003 07:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I like "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" and "The Bitch Is Back" (the former alot more than the latter), but I don't like either song nearly as much as the guitar riffs that anchor them.

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 17 February 2003 07:28 (twenty-two years ago)

"Spaceman" by Babylon Zoo, obv
