anyone who mentions them being GIRLS gets a smack btw

the internet (scg), Friday, 7 February 2003 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Definitely classic.

They were girls, you know [runs away cackling insanely]

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 7 February 2003 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Pretty damn well spectacular -- I was so glad for that reissue after hearing about them forever. Them Swiss folks rocked, they did.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 February 2003 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Classic for the number of Kleenex songs that are on the anthology -- sandwiched together with the Liliput incarnation it's all kind of cuteness overkill, I find.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 7 February 2003 14:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I like them. They got better. As an example of Europeans trying to play funk music it's very amusing. It's fun to listen to, more fun than their great stylistic antecedents the Wiggins sisters, better drumming I guess. If they'd covered "My Pal Foot Foot" it would've been perfect. My favorite track is probably "In a Mess." My friends make me take it off.

Edd Hurt (delta ed), Friday, 7 February 2003 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

The Shaggs' drumming was quite competent! It just wasn't, you know, in time!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 7 February 2003 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Love them, love them, love them. The first disc got me right away, the second disc snuck up on me--such a great band.

Douglas (Douglas), Friday, 7 February 2003 16:39 (twenty-three years ago)

The Shaggs drumming: That's right, it just wasn't in time!

Edd Hurt (delta ed), Friday, 7 February 2003 16:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Where's the love!?! So little commenting for such a great band. That double disc is awesome. BOATSONG is genius!!! Just about everything they did was genius!

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Friday, 24 February 2006 09:05 (twenty years ago)

When the Cheeky girls' "Cheeky song" came out, the last bit reminded me of "Aint you". But I guess you'd have to play both to see what I mean.

It's a shame there's no film for "You" and "Eisiger Wind", for me their best two tracks.

Has this been confirmed? Can't find anything about it anywhere.

Wish I could just blare this unreasonably loud when the students come in today.

I handed the entry-music over to someone else a couple of years ago, though, so that's not going to happen.

Definitely one of my favorite bands that Other Music hipped me to back in the day. And still sounds great right now.

Pictures of LiLiPUT (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 18 May 2016 22:34 (ten years ago)

I can still kind of remember reading in a fanzine that I needed to get their compilation (the CD one that came out in the 90s?) and that the only way to do it was to mail-order from Switzerland I guess. Which I did. It's funny to think about that sort of thing happening. I remember learning ahead of time about the KRS reissue, putting my old CD on eBay (it was then going for pretty big $) and then having an attack of conscience and mentioning the upcoming reissue. It still sold for three figures.

I always liked the first CD in the compilation better, and didn't give enough attention to the second.

Listened to the "Live Recordings" for the first time since it came out, same really great stuff there. There's a hidden track at the end of track 24, anyone know its name?

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Saturday, 3 September 2016 18:04 (nine years ago)

listening to the 2CD thing and i'm kinda wondering why kill rock stars can't keep it in print? but maybe CDs don't matter any more. you can buy a download for 9 dollars from KRS. maybe that's good enough. i guess. just seems like something that should always be available but i get that physical availability doesn't matter as much now.

100 dollar Mississippi vinyl box does NOT count. punk's the people's music so you can stuff your ideas of class.

scott seward, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:43 (nine years ago)

I guess that a re-press of that 2cd set would sell slower than when it was issued the first time. So glad I got one back in the.

A bit like all those Captain OK sets that sold out and are huge prices on Discogs.

“Captain Oi” obviously

Anyway, I’d love that book, but it seems pricy. Still, I did see part of a lyric for “Eisiger Wind” recently, one of my favourite singles ever, so…

Live tapes? Hmmmmmm
