Anyone remember them?

of course, i used to think of Alisha's Attic as just a poor rehash of the Beehive, who i thought were kinda cool, even with their cover of 'I Think I Love You'

VotB: probably better musically. But I still have a distant faded and thus fond memory of 'Hanging Out With Halo Jones'.

ten months pass...
This is maybe the only thread whose title mentions VOICE OF THE BEEHIVE.

I should not have been (so) slighting about them in the past. On Ken Bruce today comes a thundercracker of 80s melody, guitars, soft-rock-pop California sound like 1983, flooring me as familiar yet unfamiliar pop will do. Wow, I must find out who this is. And it was 'I Say Nothing' by VotB! I don't remember them making a record this great.

go back and take another look at that back catalogue. voice of the beehive had a gorgeous blend of girl harmonies and guitars. i loved them for some of the same reasons i love the aislers set now (of course, that comparison will only work if you like the aislers set).

they toured, supporting the wonderstuff (but overlook that) this year, for the first time in ten years. they were muttering about re-forming. i hope they do, that's one nostalgia trip i'd be happy to go on.
and they mentioned wendy james. something about not slagging her off this time around. it would be shooting fish in a barrel, i suppose.

I say Nothing was a pretty good pop song

"This is maybe the only thread whose title mentions VOICE OF THE BEEHIVE."

It is, apart from THIS ONE.

I used to go to college with Transvision Vamp's original drummer (Pol Burton) so I'm voting for them.

Search: Andy Warhol's Dead by Transvision Vamp.

Utterly great.

Jim Robinson (Original Miscreant), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Voice of The Beehive's 'Monsters and Angels' was one of the first singles I ever bought, I re-played it the other day and I still think it's wonderful.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I like it too.

And today STUART MACONIE played 'I Think I Love You' by VotB.

Perhaps it was not so good. Was it a cover?

the beefox, Wednesday, 7 January 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, of David Cassidy! it's okay - good intro

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I listened to "The Man in the Moon" tonight and almost cried.

This takes me back to the days of yore and the somewhat confused, marginally talented, pre-feminist chick bands that inhabited them. Let us not also forget Mary's Danish, the Lame Flames, the Pandoras, the Primitives, the DiVinyls,and...Sunscreem.

Ah, Sunscreem, I raise a glass to your dreadlocked blonde chanteuse and hideous, truly ghastly, utterly crap cover of "Love You More."

James, Saturday, 10 January 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I listened to "I Walk the Earth" just after it. There's something drawn back about them on that song. Haha then my mp3 software somehow dialed up "Bitch, Please II" feat. Nate Dogg

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 10 January 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"Tell That Girl To Shut Up".. come on. the Vamp wins easy.

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 10 January 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to have the first two Transvision Vamp albums. The second one was a lot better than the first, as I recall.
