What's the name of the classical piece in his "Song in the Sleeping Forest" (off his Symbol LP) that first comes in at 1:57 and continues up until about 2:33 through the song? It comes back in again at 3:27 and continues till almost the end of the song.
Here's a blogpost with the song:
http://goodvibrato.org/?p=513
It sounds really famous, so please give it a shot, even if you're not a classical music buff. I just can't remember the name for the life of me. Thanks!

no idea, but i love this guy!
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 16:43 (seventeen years ago)
hello
what do you all think of "CAT, MOUSE & ME" on harthouse?
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 01:25 (seventeen years ago)
i thought it was borderline interesting, but it never quite got there.
― Lingbert, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 02:42 (seventeen years ago)
A copy of this sitting in my glove box for the last few years:
http://www.discogs.com/release/152030
it's not very good. I want my 99 cents back.
― Display Name, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 02:53 (seventeen years ago)
how did I miss this? "Cat, Mouse & Me" is a great record. proto-Kompakt ambient pop with breaks instead of glitch
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 21 August 2008 00:41 (seventeen years ago)
I really like this; http://www.discogs.com/release/189981
― mmmm, Thursday, 21 August 2008 08:12 (seventeen years ago)
it's really nice jazzy broken beat with a lovely haunting vocal. I haven't played it for months but I can hear the melody in my head instantly...

Search - his ambient stuff
Destroy - his house stuff

destroy Re:Disco???
― mmmm, Thursday, 21 August 2008 21:51 (seventeen years ago)
I wouldn't destroy all the house stuff, I like both the Prism albums quite a lot. They're quite moody and pretty in stripped-down kinda way.
― Tuomas, Thursday, 21 August 2008 21:56 (seventeen years ago)
I didn't even know he did house stuff.
― jim, Thursday, 21 August 2008 22:10 (seventeen years ago)
Really love some of this guys stuff so much. "Sakura" is an absolute masterpiece to me. and i also really love "Distant Sounds of Summer" and some of "image 1983-1998" hits a Roedelius like sweet spot. I would be interested in hearing more about his earlier albums under the pseudonyms Spectrum, Ringo, Stevia and Aenima mundi. are any of these ambient or more house?
― dsb, Sunday, 4 April 2010 05:27 (fifteen years ago)
heard one of the Prism tracks out yesterday, not sure which it was - really surprised it was yokota, never liked anything ive heard under his own name

― xelab, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 14:20 (ten years ago)
Oh no! RIP.
I didn't know he was 54, which is older than I'd realised, but still too young for this sad news.

always feels wrong somehow to discover great music via an RIP thread on ILX but it's happened more than a few times, this is pretty great very talented composer

Totally bummed out by this, my old, old band made it onto his Leaf mix CD and I was always knocked out that our stuff got heard by creator of such beautiful records.
― MaresNest, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:42 (ten years ago)
This is a real shame.
I never got round to buying anything other than Grinning Cat but that record's a beauty.
R.I.P.

Oh, this is really sad... Haven't listened to his records in years, but I used to love his 90s techno/house stuff, and the later downtempo records on Leaf were nice too. I didn't know he was 54 either; AFAIK his earliest releases were the trancey tunes he did for Harthouse around 1993(?), so I guess his career kicked in fairly late. Still way too young to go, obviously.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 20:05 (ten years ago)
There's a wonderful album called Image 1983 - 1998 which I assume is earliest works. It has dates in the track listing. It has this on it;

fuck this is really awful
― Rave Van Donk (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 20:31 (ten years ago)
Wow, Rip. So sad. Sakura came out when I was 19 or so, and it blew me away. One of my favorite ambient albums still. Grinning cat is also excellent. Can vouch for Image, Triple time dance, and symbol too. I never really connected with his houser stuff but "on and on" and "re: disco" were super addicting tracks for me.

Ebi - Zen hasn't been mentioned here. It's really cool. Slow acid grooves. A definite winner.
― mmmm, Friday, 17 July 2015 19:33 (ten years ago)
RIP. Playing the above mentioned loud tonight.
― mmmm, Friday, 17 July 2015 19:34 (ten years ago)
Finally got around to checking more of this guy's stuff. Sakura sounded really nice this afternoon and The Boy and the Tree is very intriguing, almost haunting.
― ultros ultros-ghali, Monday, 23 May 2016 20:56 (nine years ago)
wow so is ebi - zen the best acid techno album ever or what?

I totally missed that he'd died. 54 is no age.
Sakura is one of the greats for me, but I've not explored a massive amount more. A hidden gem is Water's Edge, an ep he did with Rothko.

Been diving into a lot of this dude's dance records of late. I recall passing over them when I was younger as I felt his ambient stuff a la Sakura were so so much better.
Having finished 1999 and now Baroque, I'm kicking myself for overlooking this stuff. 1999 has got some amazing Chicago/Filter house influence and is funky af.
Baroque is more ethereal and absolutely gorgeous. Like SAW 85-92 meets Prince of Denmark or something. You can tell the reverb unit used on a few tracks are the same as some of those early 90's IDM records, but the production is clearly more contemporary. Brilliant stuff.
