Wow, I haven't thought of this record in ages. But it's indeed a classic and never gets a mention, even now with this supposed post-punk, no wave revival. Has this ever been released as a CD? I seem to recall seeing it somewhere.

ten years pass...
“The Raybeats went into Green St. Recording on June 4, 1982 with Philip Glass, Michael Riesman, and Kurt Munkacsi without really knowing what to expect. We wouldn’t know what we had until thirty years later.”
So begins the liner notes to THE RAYBEATS – THE LOST PHILIP GLASS SESSIONS, a set of seven songs made in the early 1980s by the instrumental rock band The Raybeats that featured keyboard arrangements by Philip Glass. New York City in the late-1970s and early 1980s was a place where the cross pollination of very different artistic streams was limitless. These never-heard-before tracks were recently discovered by The Raybeats themselves: Don Christensen, Jody Harris, and Pat Irwin. Four of the tracks featured arrangements by Glass, performed by Glass, Michael Riesman, and the production team of Glass, Riesman, Kurt Munkacsi, and The Raybeats.
The songs include Black Beach, And I Do Just What I Want, Pack of Camels, Hoodlum Priest, A Sad Little Caper, 1.2 Girls, and a cover of the classic Jack the Ripper.

What, a tiny, sad, neglected thread... I absolutely LOVED this band, and played Guitar Beat to death. It's Only A Movie is not as classic, but worth checking out. Completely unexpected and wonderful news about the new release!
