Ok so you're connected to the net and you LOVE music. You know there songs out there which can change your whole week, make you smile, cry whatever. You've heard some names, the feelies, yo la tengo, Schneider TM but you havent heard the music, you go online and seach and find....100's of songs. And we all know all bands have at least some crap records.
The Problem: Which ones do I listen to , in order to get to hear something representative of the band ? Should we start a resource for people who want to check out a band and hear one of thier good song ??

Or you can always start a search & destroy thread on the act here, and people will tell you what they think their finest moments are.

www.allmusic.com

This will give you an endlessly complete storehouse of conventional wisdom. But it will make you feel the need to be a completist, and waste your money.

Temper it with this and this.

Three music sites you NEED to know about are www.allmusic.com, which was already mentioned, www.markprindle.com, and www.playlouder.com.

Emphasis on www.allmusic.com
Add warr.org to the list
And fye.com and towerrecords.com, where you can
listen to good-quality 30-second samples from
tens of thousands of records, including those
that aren't downloadable online.

audiogalaxy had great features for this... it listed songs by a band by default by how many downloads the songs had got, & this always meant that the band's 3 best songs would be in the top 5.

*_sigh_*
& now Soulseek's all messed up.
