Does it start and finish with Something Changed off Different Class?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 9 February 2003 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Technically, it was fifth, since Mis-Shapes and Sorted For E's And Wizz was a double A-Side, so the title of the thread is a bit wrong, yes... leave it out, eh?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 9 February 2003 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

'Pleasurehead' of Seafood's When do we start fighting?. The other three were the far less interesting 'rock' tracks.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 10 February 2003 01:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Britneys anticipating. too bad the video is awful

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Monday, 10 February 2003 01:16 (twenty-three years ago)

"Wanna Be Startin' Something" is the champ here, far as I can tell.

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 10 February 2003 01:54 (twenty-three years ago)

"Nancy Boy". Duh.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:25 (twenty-three years ago)

does that really count, though? because in theory, the version of "Come Home" on the LP is different so doesn't necessarily count as a 'single from the album'..

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:28 (twenty-three years ago)

(i so hoped that "find the river" was the fourth sp... seems it was more like the *sixth*... damn, damn, hotdamn!)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:44 (twenty-three years ago)

'Up the hill backwards' was the first 'fourth' single I ever bought (from Bowie's 'Scary Monsters') and it still sounds good to me.

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 10 February 2003 09:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I quite like "Even Better Than the Real Thing".

Vinnie (vprabhu), Monday, 10 February 2003 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Janet Jackson's fourth singles include "Control", "It's Alright", "Anytime, Anyplace" (I think, either that one or "Again"), "Go Deep" and "Son Of A Gun".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 10 February 2003 18:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Agree w/Matos, though wasn't it the FIFTH? ("Girl is Mine" / "Billie Jean" / "Beat It" / "Thriller"...or did it come after "Thriller"?). Always wondered why there was no video for "Wanna Be Startin' Something"--and did this possibly keep it from reaching #1? (Not that in some ways I'm not glad there wasn't a video for it, just curious).

dan fitz (danfitz), Monday, 10 February 2003 18:17 (twenty-three years ago)

"move bitch"

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 10 February 2003 18:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Madonna's fourth singles... "Burning Up", either "Angel" or "Dress You Up", "Open Your Heart", "Keep It Together", "Rain", "Bedtime Story", and "Drowned World/Substitute For Love".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 10 February 2003 18:23 (twenty-three years ago)

"Hyperballad" was a fourth single?! Well, let's add that to the list.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Monday, 10 February 2003 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

What was the fourth single off of Nevermind? In Bloom perhaps?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 08:10 (twenty-three years ago)

"In Bloom" was the forth single

toss "U Got the Look"/"Housequake" on top, since "Wanna Be Startin Something" was a fifth single (it's on top of that pile, although "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man"'s right behind it)

was "Night of the Living Baseheads" a forth single? was "I'm On Fire"?

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 08:17 (twenty-three years ago)

fourth

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 08:19 (twenty-three years ago)

'Hyperballad' - good call Vinnie.

I think 'Don't you want me' was the fourth single from 'Dare' (preceded by 'Sound of the crowd', 'Love Action' and 'Open your heart').

There's not a better single than 'Don't you want me' elsewhere on this thread. Do we have a winner?

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 10:47 (twenty-three years ago)

The Streets 'Don't Mug Yourself' perchance?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 11:31 (twenty-three years ago)

NOVEMBER RAIN MOTHERFUCKERS!

(Assuming you count Use Yr Illusions 1 and 2 as one album, of course)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 12:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll get smacked for this but the new Idlewild single, "A Modern Way of Letting Go" (after "You Held the World...", "American English" and "Live in a Hiding Place"), is a tad more substantial than the others, and rocks out real good-like. Ooga-chaka!

Simon H., Tuesday, 11 February 2003 12:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, what was the fourth single off of "Mellon Collie"?

"Thirty-Three" or "1979"? Either way, add it.

Simon H., Tuesday, 11 February 2003 12:53 (twenty-three years ago)

"All. Of. My. Heart"

There can surely be no other winner of the truly sentimental vote.

darren, Tuesday, 11 February 2003 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

harder, better, faster, stronger.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 17:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Underworld 'King Of Snake' (if you include 'Moaner' - the video of which got shown on MTV but i dont think it got an official single release, it was just to promote the Batman & Robin soundtrack) - if only for the brilliant 'Barking' mix

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 18:39 (twenty-three years ago)

The Way That I Found You, mayhap.

alexfack (alexfack), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 19:27 (twenty-three years ago)

The fourth single off Mellon Collie was Tonight Tonight. The order was: Bullet, 1979, Zero, Tonight Tonight, Thirty-Three. Although, Zero was a bit funny and not released everywhere at the same time.

Laney, Tuesday, 11 February 2003 20:20 (twenty-three years ago)

nine months pass...
Californication. Shoot me.

man, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever the fourth single was off of The Prodigy Experience was I'm sure it was great ("Out of Space", maybe?) so I nominate that.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

What was the fourth single off of Faith? That belongs here, I'll bet. Unless it was "Monkey."

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 03:30 (twenty-two years ago)

does the Prodigy count, though? most of those songs were singles before there was an album, weren't they?

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 03:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I was wondering that too. But TECHNICALLY in the US they all really got released before or in conjunction with the album so. . .

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

"Don't you want me" Human League

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Hanging On The Telephone - Blondie

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

That was the first one, stew.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you sure Mark?

Oh well then:

"I'm Going To Love You To".

Or "Sunday Girl".

Or "One Way Or Another".

Or "Heart Of Glass".

Or "Picture This".

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, just checked, and it was
1) picture this
2) telephone
3) Heart of glass
4) SUNDAY GIRL!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually I think it depends what country you are / were in:

"I'm Going To Love You Too" was apparently only released as a single in the US, Canada and Holland and "Sunday Girl" doesn't appear to have been released as a single in the US.

Well, that's according to these nice people here anyway.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

And where were you at the time?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

< guilty > I-I-I.... just looking at a picture of Debbie Harry....

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I have got "I'm Going To Love You Too" as a single 'though and I'm sure I bought one of the others on import quite a while before it came out over here too because the singles came out in a different order in the US or something.

Not that I was relying on my memory of the chronology 'though 'cos I wouldn't have a clue - I just know that it's the only LP I've ever ownved where I also owned every single track on single / 'B'-side as well and assumed the nice website had put them in chronological order for me and....

.... look, I got it wrong and I'm really sorry - I know how important it is to get things like this right and I promise it'll never happen again, OK?
