heard this on the radio tonight and it sounded distinctly familiar...in fact i'm pretty sure i've heard it on another record somewhere before, sample (uncredited) with very light keyboards added. anyone have any idea what i'm talking about?

and while we're on the subject of this guy, any opinions? generally not my cup of tea, but c'mon, gamelans are badass.

actually, after looking through some old mixtapes, i think i actually had it confused for a different (but apparently similiar) Harrison piece, "Jhala 3". in any event, people should be sampling this stuff.

but anyway, neat guy, from what i heard on NPR. he does what he calls "whole world music", borrowing from all cultures to construct a unique sound, and made some interesting comments about the idea of credibility w/r/t making music that originated in a different culture than your own, and he thinks it's possible to "burn off your cultural armor" and just assimilate whatever you want.
