Has anyone heard that wacky eighties yamaha/primitive digital sound?

I have and I have lived through the 80s, which from 83-88 resembled something like hell. So I'm not very enthusiastic. It's full-on pastiche innit? No interesting ways out, or clever updates into 2001. So dud.

I saw them play at Trash when the audience was a wierd mix of teenage tourist and record company types. The response was pretty across the board - the oldies were horrified " I remember Huey Lewis " while the kids thought it was cool. For me its recycling blindly, not even bothering to nick the best bits but I knew I wasn't gonna like them when a guy from WAll of Sound told me they were " like Hall and Oates..but classic Hall and Oates" !!)

Well I think they're great. Frankly, I could've stood for eighties sounds to come back in 1995. To me the sound of the nineties for the most part has been a real drag compared to the eighties. I think its about time some skinny, bronzed, blonde yachting types played some digital synths and put on a pout for the sake of dance funk.

I was there too, though to be honest they were so unspectacular that I mostly ignored them, occasionly glancing over my shoulder at them as I waited (and waited and waited) at the bar. Despite being a member of The Kids, I found them a bit boring. I keep thinking I should like them because at least they look nice but there are other, much better, 80s influenced synthpopsters around at the moment so what's the point of them?

I dunno, I mean if you say you only like band sthat take the "good things" from the eighties, I mean, who is to say what the goo d things are? Its all personal opinion. For me, I want an eighties sounding group to use the most hated synths and sounds. I often make 40 somethings cringe when I speak of the infamous Yamaha dx 7 digital synth, the "dating machine". But to me thats what makes it fun. More STyle Council pomp! Less grunge/alternative-with-a synth-so-it-sounds- alomost-interesting. SADE forever!
