DOOOOOOOOM S/D

Alright, so Esoteric's Metamorphogenesis completely destroys me. If I could actually find a legitimate copy that doesn't sound like a tinny ear-raping, it would probably be the end of me. I have The Pernicious Enigma and it's good but not quite as good.

I've liked what I've heard of Skepticism (I have aes) and Corrupted's Llenandose de Gusanos is pretty impressive. Don't much care for early Anathema, tho. (Who let this mumbly joe singer character into the studio and let him go nuts with the reverb?)

So, what else is essential? Are Morgion worth looking into? Angels of Distress? Anything as psychedelic as the Esoteric stuff?

did you say eczema?

I've never heard a note by any of the bands you mention, but to use and ILM-ism, Electric Wizard OWNS doom.
Search: Come my Fanatics, Dopethrone.

nothing really as psychedelic - i actually prefer "pernicious enigma" at this point but it is, as they say, all good.

things i like:
boris - absolutego, flood, amplifier worship
corrupted - nadie
khanate - khanate
skepticism - process of farmakon
unholy - gracefallen

esoteric are pretty unique at this point. and very, very bad at keeping their cds in print.

it's nothing like any of the above, but i've been listening to high on fire's latest cd constantly and goddamn it's great.

Also search: Black Sabbath - Electric Funeral

none more doom!

I do have an Electric Wizard album (Let Us Prey) and I actually like it best when they slip out of the Sabbath ghetto. (i.e. the track with piano) Are the other albums much better?

All I've heard of Boris is Amplifier Worship but I'll probably be changing this situation pretty soon. That album is getting a US release through Southern Lord, btw. I hope they do Flood next.

"let us prey" is the one e-wiz album i haven't heard, actually. "supercoven" features two longish tracks that are both firmly in the post-sabbath/earth/sleep style.

i heard about southern lord doing the boris, and good job they did. now if only someone would make those corrupted releases easier to find (everything i have by them is mp3s).

I got my Corrupted album via gemm.com thru some Spanish shop. It was actually really cheap too... about $11-$12 for a double album shipped overseas.

Oh yeah, and...

I've never heard a note by any of the bands you mention...

Esoteric's site has full-length audio streams of every track they've ever recorded.

oh yeah, i forgot old man gloom's _seminar III: zozobra_. it's got a bit of that neurosISIS chest-beating vibe to it, but it's damn crushtatious with a some nice keyboards. i think they're keyboards.

your null fame (yournullfame), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I love that record but I always aligned it more with the Neurosis/Isis sound myself, maybe with some extra repetition thrown in for good measure. Isn't Aaron Turner (from Isis, runs the hydrahead label too) a member? And some Converge guy too? Really nice record regardless.

And I like it much better than Seminar II, anyway. That one was just too all over the place, like it's the Druqks of CHUGGA-CHUGGA hardcore or somethin.

original bgm, Friday, 14 February 2003 19:20 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, aaron turner and converge and cave-in members. i'm completely unfamiliar with those bands but that's what the press says. definitely agree with you about seminar II - III is great because it just digs down into a groove and wallows there.

your null fame (yournullfame), Friday, 14 February 2003 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Isis are a very, very strong band despite seemingly changing their sound from record-to-record, even if it is pretty gradual. I'd search their last as it's one of my faves of the past year. Cave-In and Converge are not as strong, really.

btw, the Unholy record you recommended a bit back sounds great if the first few tracks are any inclination.
