Tim. Never could get into Jeff.

i've been meaning to start one of these forever. so similar, yet so different.

i can't get over the mid-90s sound of jeff. never did it for me neither.

there was a period of a few months were i listened to nothing but Tim Buckley. i stayed up nights fending off higher bidders on ebay trying to get Starsailor. (fuck you bastards w/your stupid applications that outbid people 30seconds before the auction is over)

JasonD (JasonD), Thursday, 13 February 2003 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

btw: my all time fave song of his is "Sweet Surrender" off Welcome to LA

how's Sefronia. i listened to it once before i warmed to his soul sound and i couldn't get into it, specially that one song w/a girl singing on it. figure i'd probably like it now.

JD, I can burn Starsailor for you.

Yeah, with Jeff I think it's the 1990s production n' sound that turn me off.

Would've loved to see Tim Buckley/Miles Davis billz back in the day, btw.

i own the record now. but i had to fight off many ebay fuckers

Sefronia's got a nice vers of Dolphins on it. But it and Look at the Fool are pretty uninvolving compared to Greetings.

have you heard any of the Tim live discs? they're really great, and he has the best sense of humor. totally making fun of his songs and the audience.

JasonD (JasonD), Thursday, 13 February 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

The double live London one with the Happy/Sad stuff is very nice. What're the later lives like? Are there any Lorca/Starsailor ones?

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 13 February 2003 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

The other live disks are great, though they suffer from some sameyness as they go on. (Too many slow songs in a row on Troubadour, too many jumpy funkers on Honeyman.) Some amazing performances, though. The Get on Top/Devil Eyes medley on Honeyman is fierce.

And I'd love a burned copy of Starsailor, if anyone's offering...?

Prude, Thursday, 13 February 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i only had 'Live at the Troubadour 1969'. it doesn't look like any of that live albums of that time period were released.

are you guys fans of Fred Neil? i listened to 'A Little Bit of Rain' earlier today. i've never heard Dolphins performed by him or tim. does he get a little more out? i've read he does get into more jammy, indian influenced stuff, but the record i have is pretty bluesy.

JasonD (JasonD), Thursday, 13 February 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Prude: i'll do a burn of starsailor. write me

My offer stands for anyone, but it may be a while (ask brg30).

Fred Neil rulez, although I only have one album by his. Saw Vince Martin (a cohort of Neil's) open for Black Dice last fall, he was pretty awesome.

Weird. I found my copy used for $5 or something.

Anyway, took me a long while to actually like Tim, but now I do. Jeff is still beyond the pale, though.

not one defender of Jeff! :-)

gaz (gaz), Friday, 14 February 2003 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

well he did a nice cover of Hallelujah

coelcanth, Friday, 14 February 2003 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"Sweet Surrender" might actually be the greatest song in the universe.
