scenario:

Ms. S. O'Connor against Ms. B. Güdmundsdöttir in a large locked room.
only weapons allowed are larynxes, mouths, lungs, diaphragms---anything involved in getting the sound out. no microphones.

whose lungs do you think would reign supreme?

I think Bjork could go higher and thus blow Sinead's eardrums.
However, I think they should unite forces and attack Mariah and Christina

oops (Oops), Friday, 14 February 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

My impression is that Bjork can belt higher, but Sinead can sing higher.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 14 February 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Diamanda Galas wins.

hstencil, Friday, 14 February 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll take your word for it, as I haven't heard that much of Sinead's catalogue

They're both kinda weird, but Bjork's weird in a cartoony way while Sinead's weird in a 'i got issues w/the world' way

oops (Oops), Friday, 14 February 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

lyrical content aside; i'm talking sheer lungpower.

though Diamanda Galas isn't a bad answer. :)

Shinehead O'Connor by miles and miles.

Bjork can mince around all she likes and be mad elfin, but Sinead is a very angry Irish woman chock full of raw intensity. Sinead's power level is way too high for Bjork to handle unaided. If it came down to a fight to the finish: If Bjork had Howie B and Mark Bell strapped with grenade launchers and machine guns as a power trio and Sinead just had her lungs and a microphone, I would give the Bjork contingent a minute thirty at best.

Shinehead would just send out a signle raw force blast from her lungs and Bjork would combust. Shinehead is so badass that she could rock her own comic book.

I think they would duel it out to the end...from the breathy whispery beneath the belt blows to the swift high-end scream kick to the jugular...and as the battle raged on and both were beginning to feel the strain, they would realize that, 'hey, why are we fighting against each other?' and suddenly they would pick each other up and go out on a vigilante rampage against the Shanias, Celines, Titneys, and Mariahs of the Western World to defend the honor of all the amazing women singers the world has known whose legacy has been trampled on so.

nickalicious, please don't take this the wrong way, but i think i heart you. XD

janni (janni), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

How could I take that the wrong way? What, like as a suppository?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

(Oh, and, thanks!)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

you're welcome.

(well, not in a stalker-like way. with or without a butcher knife, in the shower. XD)

janni (janni), Friday, 14 February 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

The room would collapse. Ireland and Iceland share too many letters and both are islands. People would get confused.

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 15 February 2003 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Bjork. Sinead is washed up.....and, of course, crazy. Not that Bjork is necessarily the sanest little elfling in the forest, but still...Sinead's completely out of her tree.

bjork cuz yo

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 15 February 2003 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I have come to the slow conclusion that Sinead is the worst thing about the new Massive Attack.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Saturday, 15 February 2003 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

You guys are bumming me out -- is the new Massive Attack really that bad? Everyone's been dumping on it (I haven't heard a note off it yet). Could it really be that uninspired?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 15 February 2003 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

of course

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 15 February 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the new Massive Attack.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 15 February 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Sinead's power level is way too high for Bjork to handle unaided.
(Insert gratuitious Dragonball Z reference here.)

Oooops he beat me too it.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 17 February 2003 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Sinead has got the inner rage thing going for her, but think back to the Sugarcubes' "Birthday". That stands as a raw display of destructive power. I think it's too close to call, but it'd be fun to watch (with earplugs)

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Monday, 17 February 2003 06:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Sinead hands down.
And as for the Massive album - SAinead's the greatest thing on there. Even if her lyrics are rather gimpy.
