If you don't like this

Fromt he Hüsker Dü thread:
If you dont particularly like Husker Du, what are your favourite 80s American Underground bands?

To me the obvious answer is The Replacements. What other genres can be divided into to opposing or at least different bands?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 14 February 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

But I don't like either of them. Why can't the answer be the Feelies or something?

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 14 February 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Sure, whatever. I was thinking Stones Vs The Beatles or something.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 14 February 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I see. You mean the sort of thing where you say "there are two types of people: (Beatles / Sex Pistols / Nirvana) people and (Stones / Clash / Pearl Jam) people," right? I can never sort out many those divisions are circumstantial and self-reinforcing and how much they actually mean something, however small. They really do often mean things, subtle telling things -- but there's always the fear on some level that you're just thinking that in hindsight because they were both really successful.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 14 February 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

What I want to see is the "favorite Beatle" test mapped onto N.W.A., like "actually I'm more of an MC Ren kind of guy."

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 14 February 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd be scarred it would morph into Wu thread and we'd get a J*yZ Vs N*z effect.
Someone would of course make a thread asking for your favorite member of the S1W shortly afterwards.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 14 February 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like either of them either. I would pick Sonic Youth, Swans, Pixies, Feelies, Pere Ubu, R.E.M., Devo, Dinosaur Jr., or Big Black.

Prince (or whatever that stupid fuck calls himself these days) vs. The Time
-- William R Henderson (cabinessence...), February 14th, 2003.

Prince = "that stupid fuck?" Has anyone ever been more wrong about anything in the whole history of ILx?

paul cox (paul cox), Monday, 17 February 2003 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Prince may be many things -- irritating, smelly, short, self-obsessed, narcissitic, perpetually erect, pretentious, long-winded, greasy -- but I think one would be hard-pressed to make a case for "stupid."
