69 Love Songs (UK release)

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Laurent Garnier 'Unreasonable Behaviour'

2000 was a bit of a disappointment for me....i wouldve gone for Mr Scruff 'Keep It Unreal' bit it came out at the tail end of '99 i think...i wouldve probably gone for Doves 'Lost Souls' too but i didnt even hear that until 2001

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

in fact i think 'Unreasonable Behaviour' came out in late '99 as well - arse!

oh well, Prml Scrm 'Xtrmntr' then

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

could i just say that these "pick your fave album from x year" threads are tremendous fun.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

we really should just have a thread like this:

89 De La Soul 'Three Feet High & Rising'
90 Happy Mondays 'Pills n Thrills' (WHY wasnt I reading NME at this time?)
91 808 State 'Ex:El'
92 Prodigy 'Experience'
93 Pearl Jam 'Vs' (ulp - it was at the time anyway, pretty much...)
94 Prodigy 'Music For The Jilted Generation'
95 Goldie 'Timeless'
96 DJ Shadow 'Endtroducing'
97 Daft Punk 'Homework'
98 Beastie Boys 'Hello Nasty'
99 Basement Jaxx 'Remedy'
00 Laurent Garnier 'Unreasonable Behaviour'
01 The Avalanches 'Since I Left You'
02 The Streets 'Original Pirate Material'

in fact there is one somewhere way back...where i typed that exact same list

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

GreatEasternGreatEasternGreatEastern.

For I Am Fanboy.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

At the time it was Suburban Light by The Clientele.

Now it's Suburban Light by The Clientele.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve, 'Unreasonable Behaviour' was a 2000 release.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Gas - Pop was my No. 2 album that year, but now it would beat out Kid A. I let the hype wash over me that year & it felt good but I haven't put on Radiohead in a long time. I hadn't heard The Clientele when I made my 2000 list, but Suburban Light would have been way up there.

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Record of the year was "One More Time" by Daft Punk though.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

As far as I can remember, the most important collection of songs, to me, from that year, was one that I wrote myself. I suppose it still is. I'm not sure I have topped it since.

Otherwise - FYHCYWLAP!!

the pinefox, Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

At the time, I remember it being the first Badly Drawn Boy album. Actually, I'd still go for that record, because it reminds me of a girl I used to fancy.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 20 February 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Kid A. I just listened to it last night.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Thursday, 20 February 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Black Box Recorder's The Facts of Life, followed very closely by Luomo and Radiohead.

Andy K (Andy K), Thursday, 20 February 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

shit, i forgot black box recorder. they're joint top with sakura, kid a in third.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 20 February 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

toploader - onka's big moka

andy paltridge (andy), Thursday, 20 February 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

For me it's a two-way tie between:
Johhny Cash - 'Solitary Man'
and
Primal Scream - 'Xtrmntr'

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 20 February 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck the ILX haterz: "Daisies of the Galaxy" by the Eels.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 20 February 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Great Eastern.

Closely followed by Onka's Big Moka.

Nick H, Thursday, 20 February 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Pound for Pound - Royal Trux

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 20 February 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Erykah Badu, Mama's Gun. I'm alone but I don't care, that shit is amazing.

Neudonym, Thursday, 20 February 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

(But I probably listen to Pizzicato Five's The Fifth Release from Matador more than Mama's Gun, and Apple Venus Vol. 1 more than any of them.)

Neudonym, Thursday, 20 February 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Very easy. The mighty Howe Gelb wins. Chore of Enchantment is one of the best commemorative albums ever. The classical opera bits in the background alone make this an essential purchase. The band is called Giant Sand for those who don't know...

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Thursday, 20 February 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

S. Yokota or Amon Tobin or perhaps the Herbert mix

Honda (Honda), Thursday, 20 February 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

avalanches.

minna (minna), Thursday, 20 February 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

OutKast - Stankonia

godpseed you black emperor - lift your skinny fists blah blah blah

juice (juice), Thursday, 20 February 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

...took me a while to recall what was the bloody 'alb. of the year' i picked for the daily i did reviews back then - Jimi Tenor's 'Out Of Nowhere', actually

these days i'd rather listen to 'Lift Yr Skinny Fists',perhaps, or Dave Douglas's 'A Thousand Evenings', as far as the known-to-me '00 records are concerned

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 20 February 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

gybe

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 20 February 2003 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Great Eastern seconded, with Black Box Recorder demurely careering into runner-up place.

alexfack (alexfack), Thursday, 20 February 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember enjoying 2000 intensely, but not much of it has lasted. I was very drunk for most of it though, I guess. Um... Pick one at random from;
XTRMNTR.
Rated R.
PJ Harvey.
Lambchop.
Idlewild.
D'Angelo.

This is good news. I shall be there.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 21 February 2003 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i wouldve picked 'Since I Left You' but i consider it a 2001 release for some reason

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 21 February 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to site Josh Rouse's Home, but i've gotta opt for the miraculous unearthing of The Pizza Tapes from Jerry Garcia, David Grisman & Tony Rice.

christoff (christoff), Friday, 21 February 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Kid A for sure but don't forget Smog's Dongs of Sevotion!!
