The Warlocks

The Grateful Dead & The Velvet Underground were both called The Warlocks in early incarnations.

What does this mean?

That a hippie/dronerock band from California who are friends with the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and signed to Bomp! will call themselves The Warlocks in bizarre homage to both bands.

It's all TRUE, you know!

What does anyone think of the Warlocks? I remain slightly unconvinced...

I've still not heard any, but my friend Conor got v.enthusiastic about them when I saw him last week. Any more info?

I think they're kinda fraudulent on the one hand...deeply concerned about their haircuts...on the other hand, lots of bands have given consideration to their haircuts and they sound kinda like the Rain Parade (which isn't a bad thing) and kinda-like Spacemen 3 (which is an excellent thing), and at their best they sound more than "kinda-like" the latter which is the best thing of all. Since "Forged Prescriptions" isn't gonna ever, really show up (is it?), this'll do, pig, this'll do....

really like this record a lot. my favorite since rise & fall. i have to say though i saw them open up for the black angels the night before terrastock and found the show a little dispiriting. in my mind they're on another level than the black angels, but the black angels had the strut and the swagger, while the warlocks just seemed to be going through the motions. the skull lover stuff was just okay and they didn't do any of their epic early shit, like "motorcycles" or "song for nico"

Was anybody else watching the French movie from some years ago where the guy is out driving around drinking too much, and then he walks into a bar and they're playing "Hurricane Heart Attack." Really freaked me out.

Internets to the rescue: movie was "Red Lights."
