Engelbert Humperdinck for 3 reasons:
1) He kept the Beatles off no1.
2) He didnt dance like my dad at The Brit Awards the other night.
3) Tom Jones is one of those singers who always tell the tale "Americans all thought i was a black singer when they 1st heard me on radio" Dream on Tom(and every other swine who has repeated that cliche).

Engelbert never made a good record, and despite some embarrassments Tom made lots, so it's an easy pick. There are some really strong old Tom Jones albums you know, all to be found pretty cheaply. (I didn't see the Brits, but I did see him with Wyclef not long ago, so I have seen him at his worst too.)
