am on soulseek with the back catalogue raging, and i don't want
all of 'ziggy the motion picture' just that one track.

?

piscesboy, Sunday, 23 February 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I believe it's tracked at the start of "Rock and Roll Suicide."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 23 February 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I think so too.

Zora (Zora), Sunday, 23 February 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

no, turns out it isn't on the f*ckin record at all.

piscesboy, Monday, 24 February 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It's on my copy. Vinyl rather than virtual.

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 24 February 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

It's definately on the record, and it was in the film as well (can't vouch for the DVD, although I can't imagine they'd edit that out).

Sean (Sean), Monday, 24 February 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

o well.
i went to a website that specifically
*told* me it wasn't on the album.

this bowie phase carnt be shook either -
am currently reading 'the complete companion'
(fantastic) by nic pegg, and have re-watched
'cracked actor' twice. am pondering a watch of
'just a gigolo' if i can find it. am obsessed.

have just bought '...at the beeb' after ILX recommended i should and the ryko 'diamond dogs' re-release (12 quid !!) and am feeling the pull of a double live original 'david live' in great condition, for just 6 quid from manchester's 'vinyl exchange'.

how come the 'cracked actor' live footage is so sparse yet so so
fantastic - why isn't there a film of it *all* ?

'when it's good it's really good/ when it's bad i go to pieces...'

piscesboy, Monday, 24 February 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I heartily approve of obsessing about Bowie. However, the true tests of whether the phase can be shook are:

- Do you buy the Steeleye Span album that features a Bowie sax solo on their version of 'To know him is to love him'?
- Do you seek out Bowie's narration of 'Peter & the Wolf'?
- Are you desperate to hear his Lulu and Dana Gillespie collaborations? (The former is actually pretty good.)
- Do you get 'Never let me down' (and listen to it more than twice)?

N.B. I haven't done all of these things. But I've thought about it.

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

1. No
2. One day I'll get that
3. I think I have the Lulu one on a CDR somewhere
4. One day I'll listen to my copy all the way through

I did get the DVD video collection last week...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

piscesboy what's your opinion on the labyrinth ost? i can't get enough of 'underground'; the chorus builds up so hard with some raucous gospel vocalsing courtesy of amongst others chaka khan and luther vandross then sort of rises on these soothing verses which feel like such a relief then BAM chaka and luther tumble into you like a ton of bricks when you're not looking

schnell schnell, Monday, 24 February 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I got my R&R Suicide dub from the Sound+Vision Box.

christoff (christoff), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

crikey. no no no and no.

altho peter and the wolf is probably on soulseek so who knows
and i did d/l lulu's MWSTW the other day.

as for the labyrinth stuff, you're kidding aren't you ?

piscesboy, Monday, 24 February 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

and i did d/l lulu's MWSTW the other day.

Also check out her 'Watch that man' which was the b-side.

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

as for the labyrinth stuff, you're kidding aren't you ?

"Underground" and "As the World Falls Down" are two of his better songs from the time, actually.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

wow really ! had no idea.
he said she was a new aretha or something
and planned to write a whole album.
shame it didn't work out. mindyou he was
out of it at the time.

piscesboy, Monday, 24 February 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Lulu's "Watch That Man" is great! At the end she does that Tallulah Bankhead acting excercise of emphasizing different words in the title--"Watch that man! Watch that man! Watch that man!"

I'd put off buying David Live, piscesboy. It's pretty awful. The footage from Cracked Actor is incredible, though.

Arthur (Arthur), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

try as i might i can't get consensus -
i've got friends who r saying 'best live album ever'
(bowir fans) but the case against is that DB was
off it/outta tune, as the bnad played workmanlike.

i love 'white heat...' off of '...at the beeb'
he did that at phoenix 96 and it was ace !

piscesboy, Monday, 24 February 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

went and bought 'david live' in th end. it's atrocious.
utterly unlike the 'cracked actor' stuff.
bought 'ziggy...' live album, only to find that
the farewell speech has been reduced to it's
last line, and that the re-released double cd
that accopnies the dvd will have it in full.
d'oh !

anyone see 'bowie's millions' ladt night on bbc 3 ?
angie b still crazy after all these years, not to mention
the most bitter, regretful and transparantly self serving
person i think i ever did seen on a music documentary.
shameful. she burst into tears at the end.
trying to reconcile that vision with the angie backstage
at hammersmith ...can't be done.

piscesboy, Monday, 3 March 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

They're about to reissue 'Ziggy Stardust: the Motion Picture' on DVD and CD. Apparently it's got the whole of the "last show we'll ever do" speech for the first time ever. OK, so the important bit was on the original record, but now we get to hear him thank the lighting people as well. There's a big ad for it in the new Uncut.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 7 March 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

like a fool i went out + bought the vinyl
that turns out to only have the briefest
snippet of the farewell speech on
(the very last sentence)
and the cd has just been re-released
with about a dozen extraas including - well
lo + behold - the full farewell speech.

ass.
