Fred meditates on the FUTURE and also French progressive rock.

Beautiful, the argument of a parallel futures had been done before, but still I say a beautiful piece of writing. I'm getting tired of the cynical reception of 10.000 Hz Legend. And it struck me: Gainsbourg/Eno/R.Waters, what an exciting combination!

anyway I still think 'Wonder Milky Bitch' is one horny piece of music. The one track I'm still undecided on is 'How does it make you feel?'

What fabulous writing! Truly, FT was invented for this.

Talking about an ideal world vs. the world we live in now *without* seeming icky or sentimental. Brilliant.

Omar: I understand what you say about "How Does It Make You Feel?"; it's too sickly quasi-MOR even for me :). The rest of the album, however, I think I pretty much love. In a purely luxuriant / dreaming way, admittedly, but sometimes that's the best way in the world to love something.

Robin, re "How does it make yo feel?", i'm growing into it, at first I was bit dissapointed with the robot-voice, it just sounded too much like a very dated C64 speech-synth program. The chorus is starbursting lovely though.

And there hasn't been a track since maybe Daft Punk's "Alive" that makes me feel so...large?...as Radio #1. It's so good and misunderstood.

I would love to know why Wonder Milky Bitch irritates Fred. I still think it's funny and somehow you can picture her so well. Maybe a bit too European, that Gainsbourgian "I am zee cowbooii and weeel shoot you weeth my piiistohl" sort of thing?

Fred, your writing was lovely. Daft Punk seem to have a sad nostalgia for the human, especially in their recent video with the anime, the mythical height of the members of the band and the melancholy banality of the music: those two things together, the stars and the absolute degradation of the human, make it seem like we've already gone away.

thank you, one and all. you've built up my confidence sufficiently; now you have none but yourselves to blame for future articles. ;)

omar, the reason i don't like "wonder milky bitch" is that i don't know what it's supposed to be. funny? ironic? sexy? because if it's any of these things, it's the one in the middle and irony combined with "cringeworthy" and "ill-conceived" is a nasty equation.

the evening of the relaunch, i saw air live in nyc and it was excellent, it was the FUTURE. truly, 10000hz legend proved to be an album that needs to be experienced and not just listened to. leaving the show that night, i couldn't help but feel that new york, for all of its mystery and awe, was a poor substitute for the world created within the hammerstein, a brilliant world of sound and light.

my friend kate had the record and insisted it was dreadful and i honestly couldn't believe a word she said because of all the praise on this site(including this article) but finally i have heard the album and this record is truly awful. i never fell for the 'moon safari' but i found the virgin suicides soundtrack lovely and dark and beautiful but this new one is all ideas with no vision to make those ideas cohere, despite what fred claims. if this is the future then i am very pessimistic.

Just discovered the lyric-sheet and I'm delighted that the lyrics to 'Sex Born Poison' indeed go something like:

"Meet my desire sensors/My atom juice of joy/You want to fuse my affective circuits."

Genius!

Fred's enthusiam re: live-performance has me doubting about paying a visit when they eventually do drop by Amsterdam. Just can't be arsed to get tickets on time these days. Hey wait what does my eye catch on another window: DJ Assault playing July 20th!!
