actual TS = Casablanca vs IRS (Casa. obv., maybe Wall of Voodoo or REM beat Starz and Angel but after that IRS got nobody really)

KISS over the Police easy
Casablanca over IRS

Miles Copeland vs. Neil Bogart, hm...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Casalanca had the two fisted attack of Kiss and Parliament, which trumps anything IRS could throw at'em, even Wall of Voodoo.

Not to mention Donna Summer.

You're all on crack.

Kiss = Police, for pomposity & dull music.
IRS > Casablanca .. I'm too tired to defend, but come on, obviously ...

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 24 February 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Police, because their songs are better, and since I will never see either of them in concert, Kiss' image means nothing to me.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but was there some implication in the question that the Police were on IRS, or are we just looking at the Copeland connection?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 February 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

the Police never called Dr. Love

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 24 February 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

plus we have no idea where the Police's audience stands on TEQUILA, as Sting refused to broach the issue

I saw them do a song with their 'new look' on the Merv Griffin show once

dave q, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I also remember that on said TV appearance, it was a black guy singing lead. So on the 'Renaissance' cover, why are the white guys up front? One could be charitable and consider it a convoluted fuck-you to Steve Dahl but it's still a bit curious

Unfortunately, i think the legacy of Casablanca will live on more prominently. Casablanca hit the 70's album buying public right in the chops with a salvo of rock and disco -- I.R.S., meanwhile, sapped off the thin wallets of the fringe-loving disenchanted (and newly burgeoning) underground. I.R.S. was better for Rock, but Casablanca still holds influence.

two years pass...
Renaissance vs The Elder (speaking of new looks)

ps: "A World Without Heroes" was actually cowritten by Sting and features Daryl Hall on back-up vox. See, nobody realizes that.
