(Psych Furs vs. Throwing Muses)

Both of these songs are among my very favorites from their resp. bands. And as searing and vital as "Hate" is, I go with us-against-the-world romaticism of "Love".

I might change my mind. "My pillow screams" might be my favorite vocal screech in all of rawk. "Love My Way" never kicked my ass like its counterpart, but it's just so undeniably effortlessly classic.

I never hate "Love My Way" and sometimes the Muses' entire discography is too "poetically" angsty for me. That said, sometimes I LOVE "Hate My Way" and "Love My Way" is simply a very nice song.

I'll vote for "Hate My Way," if only because it'd be so easily my Muses OPO, and with the Furs I would be satisfied with numerous other songs if I couldn't have "Love My Way."

'Hate My Way', because it's the Muses.

Hate My Way *IS* me. Or at least it was me at age 18, screaming, angry, confused, "I make you into a song, I can't rise above the church, I'm caught in a jungle, vines tangle my hands..." oh GOD, I love that song so much. Nothing can compare.

Especially not a shitty Teardrop Explodes wannabe covers band. Ugh! Psychedelic Furs, feck off!

two years pass...
Fuck, I'll revive this too. Good tunes each, but Kristin wins out.

No she doesn't.

Well, for me she does.

Ha ha ha! Oh good heavens. I'm embarassed. Somehow the idea of "Love My Way" distracted me from remembering that "Hate My Way" is by Throwing Muses. My embarassment stems from the fact that both "Hate My Way" and album it comes from are classic as hell and beat the Furs by miles.

Leave it to ILM to cause me such awkward embarassment. Brilliant pairing of song titles, to be sure.

Anal Cunt had a good song called "Richard Butler." He imitates Butler's voice in it and sings, "Richard Butler, why must you always sing this way?"

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

And here I was naively thinking "Richard Butler" was about the chief UN weapons inspector in Iraq.

Um, "Love My Way" was a superb bit of icy 80's radio fare BUT "Hate My Way" is a highlight of one US indie's better long-players!

Ms Hirsh lamenting the boy "tangled in his bike forever" and "asking [her]self again, how do they kill children? And why do I want to die?" makes me want to vomit. In a good way.

Throwing Muses haven't aged that well for me so score one more for Love My Way.

How come there's no retro-sounding post-punk alternative band that's uh, emulating the Psychedelic Furs? We've got Joy Division, Gang of Four, more Cure than I care to mention, Duran Duran, PIL, Echo and the Bunnymen, but no P Furs soundalikes. And they have arguably more good songs than all of those bands...certainly the best greatest hits album.

The Rapture covered "Dumb Waiters" on a single -- seen 'em do it live.

The P-Furs are underrated, no question. But keep in mind that they're as much to blame: they wanted to sellout, real bad, and eventually did; their post "Mirror Moves" albums are mostly embarrassments.

But "Talk Talk Talk" and "Forever Now" still get played plenty at my house.

Yeah, I agree they've compiled one hell of a greatest-hits album.

I keep waiting for Interpol to break into "We Love You."
