Needed saying.

Graham (graham), Monday, 24 February 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

No. No it didn't.

And why does the term "pram face" suddenly spring to mind?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I support you Graham, 100%. But you knew that. Doesn't anyone else agree with us?

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Explain.

jm (jtm), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, the 21st Century Girls record is like the Donnas or Sahara Hotnights put through a Chinnichap Brit-style production machine. It's absolutely wonderful--all monster fake power chords, rah rah cheerleading choruses and the most goofy, uplifting rock cliches you can think of--it's the happiest record in the world. I guess if you have any fondness for Avril or Kelly Osbourne, you should seek this out. Cause it's a similar sound. But a million times better.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Anything like Shampoo?

wl (wl), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Faster, more pop punk, sillier, more good-natured, not as bitchy.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Excellent.

jm (jtm), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 05:55 (twenty-two years ago)

But... but... I like bitchy! And did you seriously just cite Kelly Osbourne as a musical touchstone?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 06:00 (twenty-two years ago)

you're all being serious i think, and that scares me a little.

in fact, i was a little excited when 21st Century Girls first showed up back in...what was it, 1999? But then they disappeared from view entirely. Anyone know what's been going on? Did Louis Walsh or whoever, decide to let them grow the fuck up a bit?

Details, STAT! Arthur? You're good at this.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

ps. what the rubber duck is "Chinnichap Brit-style production" when it's at home?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

you're all being serious i think, and that scares me a little.

I am no such thing. I just don't like things that suck. Does that make me bad?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

There are a few Kelly fans around these parts who I think would LOVE the 21st Century Girls, Kenan. (Jel, I'm thinking of you.) It's a lot like the Josie & the Pussycats soundtrack, too.

And I love the bitchiness of Shampoo, but I like the happy-go-lucky stuff as well.

Charlie, I wish I knew what happened to them! I think they just quietly broke up. Did there record even come out in the UK? The copy I have is from a friend's Japanese import. I'm sure they'll turn up in Pop Bitch sometime soon, working at the makeup counter of some department store. Their svengali was Simon Fuller. I'm really not that good at this, Charlie, I'm sure somebody in the UK would have more info.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 06:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Humph. And there was I, thinking the album was actually coming out! More fool me for my dumbass flights of whimsy.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

21st Century Girls follow one of the great cardinal rules of music: bands that aren't Placebo that Brian Molko is involved with always suck. Qf 21st Century Girls, Alpinestars, AC Acoustics...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Snore.

KATE, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Arthur thank you you've made me want to hear it.

Chinnichap = Chinn/Chapman, producers of Mud, Suzi Quatro, Sweet etc etc.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Shall I make you a CD Tom?

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
Oh. My. God.

"I Want It Now" is so fucking good. This knocks the YYYhs out of the water.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I just wish there were slightly more cherry-bomb shrieking on this album.
