It's in The Wire. Sheesh, he could have come over and borrowed my Shirley Collins records if it bothered him that much.

What I wonder is, where does he think peole have good taste in music? People have poor taste wherever you go. Jim needs to have a Coke and a smile and shut the fuck up.

have any idea if this was ever transcribed to the web?

i did more searches trying to narrow it down and still nothing. oh well

but i went to the new wire site (http://www.thewire.co.uk/) and felt it now completely resembles one of their (and mine) pet label's site (http://www.runegrammofon.com/)

Peter Cetera was a good bass player and Danny Seraphine was a good drummer, but they never could combine ('groove') for shit, I wonder what went wrong there? They should've just let Terry "this is this" Kath run everything

I have that issue of the Wire. New site is very poor. It says the Lou Reed issue is the latest, it isnt. Its Faust on the cover. Letters page has letters criticizing the Bonnie Prince Billy album review as the reviewer doesnt thinks its depressing enough and spends more time talking about the beard. Sadly i left my copy of last months Wire on the train before i read the reviews(luckily had read the rest of the mag)

Hehehe, Jim wasn't talking about Chicago the band! He went to DePaul on the Chicago scholarship, after all!

Amateurist, agreed - if he wanted to talk British folk, there are plenty of people in Chicago who know about it.

I thought everyone in Chicago listened to Jim O'Rourke....

I think he just wanted to be closer to Other Music.

isn't that like blaming your closet for being full of ugly shirts?

I think he just wanted to be closer to Other Music.

heh, I've only seen him in there once, and that was when we went there together back in 1996 (before he lived in NYC).

I mean "Other Music" in a more holistic sense.

Heh, Amateurist there were once tentative plans for a Chicago store.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Obv the failure of the Cambridge store must have put the kibosh on that.
