its a strange album, lots of variation, as if PJ & Smiley were trying very hard to be taken seriously as musicians/artists - except the lyrics and rhyming are somewhat trite and silly a lot of the time. track 3 actually features Kevin Rowland on acoustic guitar and i just love the idea of him in the studio with SUAD...there's a weak ballad towards the end, a poppy rare groove track in the middle and a couple of Derrick May-esque techno numbers - all of which makes quite a unique little album from '92 when the rave scene had peaked.
anyway the main point of this thread is i want to know if anyone has the first SUAD album (with 'Derek Went Mad' on it) and also the Ragga Twins 'Reggae Owes Me Money' album cos i suspect they are both better than this one

Anyway, listening to it again for the first time in years... I think yes, this was their big shot at making a serious album with lots of different styles, proving their range etc... it doesn't quite come off more because of a few too many uninspired bleep tracks than acoustic guitar/ballad stuff... but about half of it holds up pretty well. Could have been a great single album, blah blah blah
I used to have Ragga Twins too but some bastard stole it from me years ago... but you can find most of that online too. It is really good, or rather the original 12 inches are really good... Spliffhead has some of the best bleeps ever (I was happy when that turned up briefly midway through Playgroup's Partymix...)

While I don't have either of the actual SUAD albums, I do have the record label compilation of early singles. Still sounds blinding too! It's got both £10 and £20 To Get In ("I thought it was £10 to get in?!" "Nah man, it's had a remix!" Classic!), Lamborghini, Change Soon Come, Derek Went Mad, Raps My Occupation and This Town Needs A Sheriff, alongside five tracks by Ragga Twins. If that wasn't enough, there's also the hard as nails, Prince sampling Fuck The Legal Stations by Rum & Black and a couple of early Nicolette tracks. (Does anyone out there have Now Is Early? Where is she now? I loved Let No-one Live...) In fact the only real duffer is the cover of Summer Breeze by Ade.
Oh yeah, I also have Reggae Owes Me Money on mp3 and can rip the comp. if anyone's interested.

still waiting on the female vocalist that delivers what I was hoping for there - finding some in Sia and probably the best tideover in Donna Dee's Spellbound.
