Anyone see it? The best comedy I've seen on Channel 4 since Brass Eye.

I am, of course, Venga. Not Vena.

Nicky Wire upsets me greatly now a days.

Missed it. Sorry.

DG, Friday, 22 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, you're not sorry. Count yerself lucky.

Stevie Nixed, Saturday, 23 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, I am sorry, I wanted to see how much rubbish per minute the fool Wire could spout. It would have been GRATE.

I caught it where they were laughing like schoolgirls upon meeting Castro. Quite embarassing, one wouldn't excpect Wire would need any assistance in making himself look a terrific fool. Though I saw it months ago, so can't comment in any detail. Still astonishes me how I ever managed to get attatched to such a joyless group. They appeared Intellectual, I suppose, and I'd educated myself by Oasis back in '95. I was only 13!

They used to be joyless in a joyful way.

obviously being in the us i have not seen it, though i did see clips of their performance on itn. the canonization of castro is a bit frightening i suppose nicky wire has no concern for the fate of people like david salvador or armando valladares or jorge valls, all men who were jailed for defying his power and beaten with steel cables, permanently disabled and had buckets of urine and feces thrown in their face. 2,000,000 exiles, 15,000 executions, forced labour camps on the isle of pines, etc. etc. the stuff of heroes i suppose.

Pop'n Cuba = approx 11-12 million. NO WAY have there been two million exiles, Keith — unless (maybe: I'd be surprised) you include ALL relatives/descendents of all those who left for EVERY kind of reason.

Nicky Wire = an idiot, but there are far worse countries in the world to be poor in than Cuba. Education and health standards both better than US average, for example.

I notice the media endlessly repeats the line that "Castro has outlasted 75 American Presidents etc" - well duh. US presidents aren't given an unlimited mandate for life. People use this apples-&- oranges comparison as proof of Castro's greatness.
