My guitar's making a nasty buzzing noise

It's not the kind of nasty buzzing noise I want it to make either, just a sort of constant ear-rending hum instead of any actual guitar sounds. It's something to do with the socket where the lead goes in cos I've tried a few different leads and amps and that - does anyone know if this sort of thing is usually easy/costly to repair n'that?

I think it's this one. Give or take a pickup. And Roger Miller.

I've always had this with my guitar and I hate it! For some reason a lot of things (like my record player) give off a 50hz mains hum when I use them in my bedroom. I don't know how to fix this though.

It might be a ground on the pickup or plug that has come loose.

If so, it is cheap to fix if you know how to use a soldering gun or probably about 20 bucks from a guitar tech.

Yes, just have someone clean and resolder the connections on the jack itself. My guitar's hum issues have gotten bad enough that I need to do this a few times a year.

Ah. Twenty bucks beats learning to do something of a practical nature any day. Ta youse
